I need a diagram on this start box. Can't find one anywhere.
Looks self explanatory, but its not really IMHO.
The Box itself has 4 open connections, and the solenoid itself has its battery terminal side and a black wire AND a black wire with white strip.
What I know to be true, the brown lead you see will go back up to the flywheel charging coil that recharges the system as they are both brown leads. On the start box I believe the large white wire will either go to the positive terminal of the battery OR the open side of the solenoid. Probably more than likely to the positive side of battery that would put power to the switch box. There is a insulated flat connector on the starter with the box that has a black and white wire. Not sure if this one will get hooked up. I assume it is a magneto or stator lead.
I removed the stock kill switch, so I assume that open thick black lead will plug into the black lead on the box, and the open middle end will go to my kill switch as that wire has two connections. That would connect all the wires on the box except the black and white lead. But now what to do with the black wire AND a black wire with white strip on the solenoid?
The battery has to have a ground of some sort, I can only assume the battery needs to be grounded to frame?
This starter kit is self contained there fore it should have all the connections required and I should not need to ground battery to frame. The leads are very short coming off the solenoid.
They are not more than about 3" long at most. I know its not rocket science, but I don't wanna have the same thing happen to me as the dam Chinese 70cc dragster night mare.

is the key switch also part kill switch? thats wat those smaller wires look like.

Not really sure. I am not sure if you turn the key "off" if it will kill it or not. I assume that it wont, and you have to use a secondary kill, which I will do anyway.

I believe it is, most 3 position key switches have an "off" setting, which kills the engine and disconnects all power. then a "run" setting which allows the engine to run normally, and (in some cases) allows accessories such as lights to be turned on, but does not send power to the starter motor. Finally there is a "start" setting which allows the engine to run, and sends power to the starter, this setting is spring loaded so the starter motor cannot be left running. Its just like a car really, except they usually don't have a setting to run lights without running the engine (although you could do that by not starting the engine and placing it in the "run" position).

Of course i will mention your switch could differ, but i believe this is standard.

osso12, if i were you I would extend the wires and mount the box on the steering column, maybe even make a more stylish cover to blend into your kart nicely.

GX160 electric starter

Hi there - this may be an off topic question but I am hoping someone can help. I have a generator for a house I am building on an island in Thailand that uses a GX160 engine. I want to fit an electric starter on it if possible. The generator is a Honda EP2500CX (240v version). If I bought one of these kits http://www.clicinformatique.com/nr-r...s.htm#ELECTRIC would it be difficult to hook up? There's no instructions included on any similar kit I can find online. I've been reading different posts, but I don't know if the generator housing will accommodate the electric starter. Any thoughts? It looks just like this one here: http://www.jojothai.com/Honda_Generator_EP2500CX

Thanks

If you go to this think:--> http://www.honda-engines-eu.com/en/engines/models_range/gx_range/gx200/index.jsp
You can download the dimensional drawings for an electric start GX200. That would be the same size as your GX-160. You could relocate the switch pannel to another location if it was in the way, but it needs to be grounded (earthed)

Heres a lower cost kit you could buy: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-GX200...097?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c64d93b39

I've heard you can just trim to your original non-electric start recoil cover to clear the starter motor... You'd also need to check if your engine block has the bolt-holes drilled/tapped to bolt the starter on.

Great info! Thank you very much. :) Are these pretty easy to install you think? There's no instructions I assume.

Never installed one myself, but should be fairly self explanitory. Just make sure you use the correct torque values.

Just one note- The flywheels from gx200 engines have a 4* retard in timing over the gx160 flywheels. It would probably run fine. However I would install one of these-
