Correct. The TAV2 by Comet has a low of approximately 2.5:1 (for ease of calculations) and an overdrive of .9:1. The exact low end figure can be found online, but I know I'm pretty close. Remember, when calculating with compounded ratios, multiply them, don't add.

redsox, the diff 'tween a 2 smoke and a 4 stroke is that the 2-S has much smoother power delivery at the crank because it fires every two revs whereas the 4 stroke "coasts" for 3 revs then has it's power stroke - ie, more "surging", harder on parts.

comet 30 w/ a 7" driven is 3.13:1 low "gear" and 1.12:1 in "high gear" (still slightly underdriven).
with 6" driven it's 2.68:1 and .9:1 (overdrive).

I thought 2 strokes fire with every revolution and 4 strokes on every other? So a 2 stroke's piston goes down after being fired, 1st stroke, then comes back up, 2nd stroke, then is fired again. Then 4 strokes do the process twice between fires, so down then up then down then up before firing, thus, 4 stroke(s).

Am I completely wrong?

Anyway I believe the OP would be using a 40 series, not a TAV2 nor Comet 30, does that change the ratios?

I have been looking at the 40 series I was wondering if it is possible to use the mounting plate seen with the smaller torque converter kits, I have next to no space on the kart.

I very much doubt it. Aside from shaft and bearing sizes, the configuration is quite different. Also, the distance from pulley center to pulley center requires precise belt sizing.

You can locate the driven and jackshaft forward of, or above or below the engine if need be.

I figure not but I didnt know if anyone has tried it, I will get to work on a jackshaft setup
whats a good distance to use, center to center?

Search online for the Comet 40 belt chart. It will give all the belt sizes, as well as the corresponding center measurements. From there, you can fine tune your setup to match an available belt.

No, you've got it right.
