I bought a minibike at a garage sale for $10. It's got everything except a chain and a cap for the gas tank. Actually theres 1 chain one there but it needs 2, the first goes from the engine to an independent axle type thing which has two sprockets on it, the other sprocket goes to the wheel and needs a chain where could i get 1? I thought about taking 1 from a bicycle but it was WAY too long. Can you cut chains to shorten them? Also where can I get a gas cap for it?

saran wrap + elastic\

To shorten chains look for a master link (chain link looks different) and pull it out. If it doesn't, grind a rivet off and hit it with a punch til it comes out
cut as many links off as you want on other side and punch rivet out. Buy a master link to whichever chain size you have (bring it in to motorsports shop or something) and attach it.

$10 and you only need a gas cap and a chain!!
A chain & a gas cap will cost less than $10!
Thats a good buy.

The first step in getting a new chain is to find out what size or pitch chain you need. So you need to find the pitch of sprocket, for example #35 pitch or #41 pitch... You want to measure the distance from point-to-point on the sporcket and the thickness. Try to be acurate as you can, you dont wanan buy a chain and then find out it doesnt fit
Push bike chain will not do at all, it is wayyy to light duty for a mini bike and it wont even fit.

As for your gas cap, you will be able to find one form somewhere... talk to your local lawnmower/small enigne shop. Try having a look at the markets or even of another egnine etcc... you will find one

Does your bike have a jackshaft like this?

Does your engine run?? what brand & HP is it?
Upload a few pictures of it :cheers2:

went to get the chain and bought the wrong kind brought it back and got a refund the guy said it was a "foreign" chain? Also i took the engine off cause it wasn't starting up but its still connected to the gas on the bike through the gas tube and i don't want to mess with it.

So questions:
How can i measure the chain to figure out what kind I need?
Where might i get that kind of chain?
What can I do to put life back into that motor? Mabye clean it or something?
Also, if the engine isn't on the bike how to i get it started? Just set it down and pull?

Thanks, couldn't do it w/o you guys!

And usually a different engine. Either way, it's not vital to the main subject.

IDK, it was confusing the excrement out of me.
mini bike, bigger more open frame, usually powered by a briggs 3.5 or 5 horse.

pocket rocket, 50cc 2 stroke powered, much smaller, substandard (metric) parts.
