Uh, well hello there. I'm new here. And this seemed like the best place to ask this question. So I'm just an amateur teen with a dad whos a homemade mechanic, so I know how an engine works. And well I don't have a car...nor a license. And well to spend time I'm deciding to build the bestest strongest beast of a kart that's off road cause friend has 16acres and I plan to rip thru those hilly 16acres. I needed horsepower and torque...because why not? After countless hours of surfing the web for the best engine, I came across the 999cc Duromax engine V-twin:

Seemed great... Except one problem. No where online could I find a video modifying it or putting on a go kart except for "red beards garage" but they didn't particularly explain it thoroughly on how to "use" it, mod it correctly, etc.

Couldn't find a Hi, Low, Reverse transmission/gearbox that could handle this kind of power.

Can anybody help me find a transmission worthy. And any advice on how not to blow myself up after modding the engine?? And find parts that can handle the power? Thanks

~Ed

That engine is too new for aftermarket support. Give it a year or so. For a gearbox that will stand up to that engine look to RPM or Jeffco. For a cvt you will need one from a high horsepower snowmobile. Good luck!
Ah. Makes all the more sense.

Comet makes a whole series of higher hp CVT's
The specs show this engine to be 58 ft/lb torque but no hp
Just doing a guesstimate, maybe hp range up to 10 +- of torque? Between 48 and 68 hp?

Most standard 999cc engine are about 55-ish. So yes around there.

I agree it's crazy. If you look at any automobile, it always has a horsepower rating at several specific RPM's. This is ridiculous. And I mean it's interesting that horsepower is a factor of a car's ability to drag a certain amount of weight up a certain amount of gradient at a certain speed for a certain distance. So the engine would have to move itself in half wheels in order to have horsepower. It would have to have wheels and transmission. And then you include the weight of the wheels and the transmission. Unfortunately my previous employer won't allow me to describe horsepower any further than that. But foot lbs doesn't have anything to do with it. Because you could put a transmission on an engine that would have a ratio of a billion to one and you could give it a trillion foot pounds of torque at an RPM of one revolution per millennium. And it would use only a one watt of power. But if you put it in a car and tried to make it go then obviously it's not going to go very fast especially not up the hill.

What kind of frame are you gonna put that v-twin on?
You typical Carter/Manco one wheel peel frame just won't work.

Why not? My previous employer says it will but I’m not allowed to tell you why.
