Serial number indicates that it's a 1978 and is a model F engine.
Horsepower ratings are a little foggy. I have model F's that are 4 hp while others are 4.5 and 5. All the engines are identical (bore, stroke, induction) to each other so I do not understand why the hp ratings are so different. They all behave like 4.5 hp.

do you think it could be the carbs that make a HP change?
BC on this one i have a small plastic carb as upposed to the other F had a bigger one that was metal

I believe your CDI pack is 'ground to run' which is an early design.
Most L-B packs are 'open to run'.
Both are essentially the same, they are just 'turned on' in different ways.
Try by-passing switch and check for spark.
If no spark, try baking coil. Most of the time it will resurrect a dead coil. This should be considered a temporary fix, although I have a few that have lasted a couple of years.

ok
so some run with a ground and some run without
i already baked it BC i thought there was probebly a problem with it and i didnt think it could hurt it
so your saying just bypass the switch with a straight wire and if that doesnt work try bypassing the switch with nothing?
i'll try it
thanks alot Mr. Russ

Sometimes baking doesn't work. If your so inclined, try Ebay for coils. I've seen them used going for around $10. Problem is you're taking a chance on a coil that may or may not work.
I have also seen them new for around $29 plus shipping.
Check around at local lawn mower repair shops. Ask if they have any good used ones they would be willing to part with. Usually they have a pile of mowers waiting to be scrapped for aluminum content.
Won't hurt to ask.

Mr. Sayre wants original and wants it right as I do with any restoration.
Any hack can get something to work. The hard part is getting it right.
Bigger payoff in the end.
I commend him.

its BC i thought about making this into a kart engine but decided not and there reasons are
it has a pretty much rust free deck, nothing is damaged and i need the money
so im just gonna wait to get a LB that is damaged that way i dont feel bad about taking apart a great LB
the way i make my money is buying non working mowers and/or cheap mowers off of craigslist and garage sales
fix 'em and ssale them later
and those lawn boys sell REALY fast down here
