I'll post up the pictures I currently have, another member opened my eyes and I'm going to fix this one up, I'm sure I'll have a few questions along the way, my first being, this frame was stretched by the p.o. and I'm fairly tall as well, with the amount he added I tiptoe the pedals at full depression. Should I try to take the stretch job out and do my best to get it back to original configuration, or do I fix the stretch to fit me? He has the steering, and pedals almost to the point of non-use, and upside down along with backwards, so I'm going to have to cut the nose off to straighten it, I hope the pictures express what I'm referring to.20190714_104238.jpg

Awesome. Good choice. If the welds on the extension are solid and if it’s square you are probably better off leaving it. For the pedals you could build a box out of angle iron and weld to front of pedal. This would get you off your tip toes and be an easy solution. Throw on some grip tape on the pedal and you are set.

I'd say the welds are sketchy at best, I'm no professional but I imagine I could at least keep them under an inch thick weld that only covers half a cut. I'm not sure any of it is even remotely square, I'm guessing he got a new welder, and really wanted to use it bad, and had the latest in eyeball measuring devices. I'll keep my fingers crossed that I can get it closer when I fix the stretched areas, if it were a better job I'd probably leave it alone, but I'm not sure it could handle even a dip in the street above 20mph.

Debating if mine's bettef or worse. Had to bend one of the arms that holds the spindles back. Last person hit something then welded it. So it was an inch back and down. Still rusty, been busy with other projects. As for yours I would cut off all the extra stuff then get rid of the extention or atleast do it right and use smaller pieces inside as well as the same od stuff

I think I'm going to take a little our of the stretch, after getting the nose up level with the frame I think if I cut hit old junk out, and weld it correctly, I should be able to get full range on the pedals, putting the steering linkage back into the valley will help too.

Yours is in better shape, and I envy you! Last guy that had mine just slapped it together, rode it hard till he broke the exhaust off, collected water and siezed. I got the original 13hp honda to turn over, but she won't fire. I'll probably rob the 9hp honda off the shaller for a while once I get all the body work done. I'm just not sure what to do with the 2:1 reduction wet clutch when I do.

He added an extra bar, moved the steering column forward almost a foot, and when he put the nose on pointing down, welded the front axle supports roughly half inch too high and crooked. I may have to get a little bit custom with mine, but at least I'm trying to get her almost 100%. I got the nose pretty straight, I'll probably do some welding and grinding tomrrow, maybe at least have the front end sorted out.

I like how you wasted no time between making the decision and diving right in. I’m sure it’ll be great when finished!

I do that a lot, sometimes it works out well, other times not so much, there is an engine involved, so there is hope.

Should I be entering this into the build-off?

Did you remove the floor pan or did you get it that way?

Haven't started any welding yet, but have removed the floor pan, that revealed the couple welds he did on the main frame, as well as the stretch job are not complete welds, and his extra tubing was welded in very uneven. I've been grinding down all of the bad welds, and just about have the frame cleaned up and prepped for proper fab work. I think he shortened the height of the backrest of the seat as well, and the steering hoop is crooked as well. I'm starting to wish I would have found one that hadn't been cut up in the first place, but I'll get it I'm sure.

Took it off, air hammer through the floorpan around the welds then ground them off. Have material to put on it that is rust free and also hole free.

Oh buddy, that is comparable to mine, I cut it off as well only to find crooked pipes welded in, now I've cut everything off just in front of the seat, I bet the pics make you feel better about yours now. I'm putting pipe inside new pipe that actually matches the original steel on the frame, I'll grind that weld flush, then weld a 3" sleeve over the new pipe and frame making it triple ply steel at the new seam, and I cut the front end off at the steering axle tube. Still wondering if this should be in the build-off or not, would it qualify?

Moving quick! Makes me want to work on mine

Well get on it! Lol. I was actually going to ask you what pitch the steering hoop is on yours if that's all factory, I'm going to have to replace the steering column so I'd rather make it longer instead of moving the hoop forward again. If you are able to help out with that I'd greatly appreciate it.

Good job. Coming along!

Thank you! Still trying to decide if I'm going to sleep, or finish the frame instead tonight.
