sportsman 400 and higher as well as others, if looking in junkyards the tranny is connected to the engine via belt. you'll know it when you see it. some smaller ones 200-350 have the same tranny but with solid axles and chain drive.

Well guys , I`ve gotten most of my engine parts now including my sprockets and brakes , still need the rear caliper though , I got the shocks yesterday , gonna use these front forks on the rear A-Arms , they have lots of travel and have the required Air presure fitting in them , they have 10 PSI in them now , will put about 25 PSI in them and fine tune when their on the Kart , next purchase will be my tubing for the frame , the vid I was trying to show how much travel they have but I didn`t have the camera in the right place , lol , you`ll probably get a good laugh outta it ,, lol , Bill:cheers2:

These forks I bought are off a 1983 YZ 80 ,, their 35" long and had the factory Air fitting , the air conversion yeilds a soft ride and can be tailored to the Kart via adjusting the PSI , I have to make a bracket with a bolt to mount the upper part to my roll cage , gonna use the tripple clamps from these , cut them up into 4 pieces where they clamp onto the fork tube and sandwich the bracket between them , easy , Bill

A set of those would be perfect for my Kart!

So I would have to use Air ones?
Instead of the regular ones with oil in them ?

Hi Raywelder , just get a set of regular forks , on a heavier kart I would probably use ones off a 125 or 250 dirtbike , as far as converting to air , just put new fork seals in , some light weight 10 or 15 weight fork oil , and the caps on the end of the fork just drill and tap the threads for a air fitting , you can leave the regular springs inside the forks there or take them out , Bill

Well guys , I got my carb today and ordered the chain ( 520 ) and shifter arm for my engine ,, might go pick up some metal tomorrow to get started on the frame ,, Yah !
I`ve been now thinking of switching to a swingarm rear suspension , Its gonna cost me way to much to fab up the independent rear suspension , If I go swingarm it`ll really cut the cost down , so my ?? is >> if I mount the engine on a separate mount not connected to the swingarm , I`m gonna get slack in the chain then when the swingarm moves up correct ?? If I mount it to the swingarm it`ll keep the chain tight but Its going to be hard to keep the Carb level with the movement , you think this will have a negative effect on the float level ?? Bill: :cheers2:

Just a little update as I don`t want my thread deleted or cancelled , my Kart has been put on hold for now as me & the Ex ole :2guns: lady are going separate ways , I`m moving in 2 weeks into a trailer I bought 2 weeks ago , and am finishing my truck so its drivable before I move , I figure sometime in Sept. I will be able to start on the frame and will update at that time , I`ll be loosing my internet also when I move for awhile till its connected up again ,
