I picked this up for fifty bucks. I like to tinker and build things so figured it would be a fun project. I have experience in welding painting and a pretty good mechanical knowledge base as i mainly do car projects. Ill post a shot of my current ls1 project. But this is my first cart project ever and have no idea what direction this may take. I plan to purchase a 212 predator soon and a live axle kit and will start from there. I am a member of several car forums and hope to some helpful advice from you guys too. Thanks for looking

Heres the car

And more importantly the cart. Or the only original part i plan on using. Its been refinished with enamel automotive grade paint

:iagree:
Shoulda bent that back to straight, then welded in braces for both left and right, so it never happens again. Bending it back will take away from its strength a little, so a brace cut to a 45* ,on the trailing side, will make it stronger than it was originally......
I see a lot of flat ground, pretty much...... I think I'd stick to a one wheel wonder, unless it is only going to be driven in grass and the like. If you go there live axle route, I suggest you redo the front steering geometry as well, to get better steering response. The live axle is going to make turning difficult, might as well fix the front now, before you paint.....
You painted, but still want to add a live axle? That involves welding,so you are going to have to repaint anyway...... Fix the bent front end. Brace it. Add in some Ackerman to the steering. Weld in the axle bearings hangers.... THEN paint..... Painting is the very last thing you do, after you build the kart, make it function and remove the bugs/kinks, take it all apart, paint, reassemble.......CAREFULLY..... :lolgoku:
Please fill in your location..... I'm thinking Georgia ,for some reason..... Missouri?

I live in mississippi. And i know the front is bent ill fix it didnt have gas for the torch. And ill look into fabing up some braces for it too. And i didnt clear coat it with the intentions of doing touch up after any further modifications. I have a shop at my house so i have the stuff to spray it again whenever.
And this will mostly be driven on grass and dirt road mainly. Pavement exposure will be limited

Hey dude you'll never get a 212 predator to move that Firebird and I'm pretty sure that frame wont fit either! Good luck.

Spindle choice

So ive been digging around the site looking for info on what spindles would be best to use for my project. Hoping someone will chime in and keep me on the right track.

Heres the original piece

Heres the wheel id like to run as id like to run some racing tires on in. https://www.bmikarts.com/mobile/6-Douglas-Classic-Spun-Aluminum-Wheels-_p_1554.html
Thats not necessarily the size i plan to go with just the style i want.

Something like this maybe?

Got a few other things all cleaned up and painted. Purchased new king pins. Will probably buy new tie rods too but for the time being i cleaned the originals up. Ill run these wheels and tires on the front for now. Wheels cleaned up ok

And i added an aluminium tread plate piece for a switch panel. I plan to use the same for the floor panel. Soon i need to weld some channel around the existing round bar out back in preparation for a rearend.
And a seat.... Gotta have a seat

And for those of you with sharp eyes .. I still havent had the chance to straighten that arm yet but i will. In the next couple days. Everything is just hand tight to see what it would look like(kids and wife wouldnt have it any other way) as i let them choose what colors it is

So my neighbor has been my helping hands with my project. Well this apparently sparked an interest for him. Last night he drug this home on the back of his truck. Has a kazuma engine with multiple gears and a starter. It ran after a few minutes of tinkering. Pretty well actually. The engine came off a small four wheeler and we have another spare engine just like it. The cart itself is pretty small though. This looks to be just the beginning of my yard carting adventures.

Heres the short vid. And i mean short. Thats my friend riding it. Im 6'4 and my head almost sticks out of the top. Its getting cold here so i wear my motorcycle helmet so my face doesnt freeze and my helmet presses pretty good against the roll bars. We werent running it wide open and dont really know what gear we were in as i havent fabricated a proper shifter yet. We just got it.

AND..... I filled out my profile!!!!
