I just used pipe insulation from the hardware store. So far the 212 is awesome. It runs great and has plenty of power. When my kids ride it I screw in the throttle screw 3/4 of the way in to slow it down. It's way to fast when I have it all the way out.
Just be aware that in doing this you may be causeing the engine not to rev high enough for the centrifugal clutch (if you have one) to engage. This will cause it to slip and you will wear your clutch out very quickly

No, it should be OK I think. There is no real slippage that could happen their. You would just lose top end power (which is what you are going for anyhow).
