Lol - That simple gesture just earned all my future tire business.

I am putting the 8hp Tecumseh back in there... It runs great other than some oil leaking out of the gov arm hole. I am having mixed feelings about the governor. I guess I need to take the side cover off and see why it is leaking.

The crush washer appears to be in place... I figure if I leave the gov intact engine might run another 40 years...

or just take it out and plug hole and enjoy a few more rpms.

I will open it up this week.

I opened up the tecumseh...
The oil leak appears to be from either or a combo of two things : retaining clip not perfectly flat or slight bend in gov arm rod.

The slight bend could just be my imagination but it doesn't seem to be affecting any of the articulation.

Who ever opened this up or painted it seem to have the retaining ring slightly skewed.
I flattened it out and there isn't anymore up and down play on the rod... That may have been the problem - should make for a good seal.

So I will be wise and keep gov assembly just as it wAS OUT OF THE FACTORY. _ DANG CAPS BUTTON!!

Waiting on new gasket, then to fill it up with oil and run it again. If it still leaks I will order a new gov assembly.

After reassembly the slightly bent gov arm rod still leaks...
-So I think I will just remove the gov and plug the hole....

Governor is removed. To preserve this 40-year-old engine I will try not to let my RPMs go over 4000. Therefore I will install my tachometer. I will post more tomorrow.

Glad you got it going. Are you positive its a MTD mud bug? I have the exact same trike with original front sticker and it says columbia I.E. golf cart co.. I'll take a pic and post it, maybe more than one company put their name on it. Interesting...If you have the brake parts cherish them I played heck working mine out.

They are pretty sweet machines. There are manuals out there for the mtd mudbug. Maybe they are one in the same.
I am going to try to work out the kinks on the stock 8hp engine. I do need to buy a wheel hub, because I have a bent one.

This may sound crazy, but mayonnaise will work wonders cleaning that fiberglass.

I agree. I already pulled it out and tapped the hole. I need to replace the crankshaft seal, and a few little uneven areas on side cover ( where gasket goes), and figure out why the carb fills up with slushy black stuff. I cleaned the Tecumseh carb ran the engine and then the carb bowl ended up with the black stuff in it again...

Really? I will have to read up on that... There is some old paint on it I need to remove too.

Yeah, just use it like you would rubbing compound, as long as the gel coat is intact it should shine it right up. I've done it to boats with a dull finish before.

If I had to pick, I like the video with the MC Hammer over the one with the Selfie Stick. I may be biased. Hammer never made me bleed. lol

Nick, on the reverse switch problem with the EZ-GO. Take that switch apart and clean it. Make sure the contacts are not worn out also. Fine grit sand paper (320) works great. Also use a little dialectric grease to lube the bolts where the go through the plates and springs. Now would also be an excellent time to replace those micro switches. They will fail usually when you are furthest away from home. Also check the brushes in the starter/generator usually the forward set of brushes wear out first. Good luck, I hope this helps.

Just got a new Comet 20 series 1" bore driver from MFG supply in sale for $90.
It was normally $120.

Funny thing is, it is not stamped Comet.
