So after a mishap.... (Ok... A Plain case of not paying enough attention) I managed to get the bike running.. And idling fine.
Take a look here if interested... http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=30099

I ended up for keeping the front wheel as is. It holds air and spins good.

It needs a bit of work with the chain tensioner, but it rides nice. In fact, I'm guessing due to the small rear tire and 6:1 ratio, it can almost pop the the front end up. I can defiantly feel it has adequate power off the line and down range.

The first ride out in the back lane of the complex, was kinda scary, cool but scary.. In a good way... I never had ridden a true minibike, but this kinda feels like when I see you folks with yours.. My bike I built, feels like a smaller motorcycle, not like this as it is lighter than mine..

Pretty cool and fast..

Nice!!

So the other day I took the Square Chop out for a little ride to a small show and shine a couple of blocks away. They're having a family festival weekend.
I was going to get my buddy to ride the Jimmy Rig with me but his woman is pregnant and recalled him for the latter of day.

I first did some checking on my setup, the clutch and sprockets... Clutch was a little less than full engagement when released. I made it there but it was a bit trying to get speed.

I'm really thinking I'm going to switch back to the cent clutch I was using before. Kinda saddened by the effectiveness of this clutch. I know totally it was a hype and an experimental design, but I guess I'm a bit of an exception due to the design of my bike..

I bought a Hilliard cent clutch, with those C shape springs, I haven't mounted it yet, but I'm think I should just go and do it anyways.

Do not be surprised if the Hilliard is noisy. We had one and it clicks and clatters. It was a good clutch and worked fine it was just noisy. I have heard that here from other members as well, and a review on a different clutch a guy was complaining about his noisy Hilliard. Just a heads up and my .2 cents.

My other clutch(the first cent I bought, comet I believe ) was a bit ringy, I'll watch out for that.

Well I just removed my DBR manual clutch, put on the new Hillard cent clutch I recently bought. I decided to keep the gearing I had with the DBR, 7:1(12-28-24-72) and see how this works...
Kinda scary off hand, nice acceleration right off the bat.. Just what I wanted.. Really cool, I just wished I had a Better place to ride it more often...

I'm kinda sad that the Downs bros didnt have a better run with this product... It was a great idea and a niche market they had. I knew from the getgo this essentially was an experimental/novelty clutch, but wheather it was improper installation/setup on my behalf, or it did/ didn't do what it was suppose to do... I'm not sure... I've move on now..

So.... As of November 1, I cannot take my offroad bike... Offroad, in its current standing. (The Square chop or the Jimmy rig) without a registration plate....

Yes that's right, a plate.... Offroading plate. Now all OVR in BC need to have this now, as a measure for accountability and traceability for thefts and environmental destruction(should an occasion arise). (Like how one would report a reckless driver on the street, just out in the bush).

So I need to register this as a U-build offroad vehicle, since I built it from the ground up. It will have a vin and a plate.
Now the fun part... All the paperwork... And of course fees... But this makes it(ironically) one step close to making it a street legal bike(of course with all the legal parts and ect.) but now with a VIN.

I had a chat with the automotive inspection office. Talked about my situation, said its a kinda unusual situation, but yes if I got stopped by the 5/O it would be construed as a ORV and subjected to same rules...

FUN STUFF.... I like hoops..... Right....

Well I've been having brake problems for awhile now, I just couldn't put my finger on what is the problem.
The brake rotor, is a rotor from an 80's Kawasaki motorcycle. I think it's warped.. It's hard to tell riding and just spinning the wheel...
I checked it by a straight edge there is defiantly a rocking movement against it.

I just came back from a motorcycle salvage shop... They had two of that size....
So here good luck.. I'm going to see if I can get it together tonight or tomorrow for sure...

So people... A word of advise...
If all else fails.... Check the trueness of the part....

I went and got a new disc. Pretty darn flat. got it all put together.
on the test ride I did a panic stop..... it slowed down..... but really am I expecting too much from these type of brake calipers????.......

I didnt really get a responce from my last post on my previous thread on brakes...
http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=32685

Im totally stumped now...

Shouldnt this lock up the rear wheel like no problem????

I would have put a band brake on the jackshaft but since youve got the disc all setup just go with a hydraulic caliper. you probrobly are warping the rotor with the mechanical caliper. with a wheel that big youre asking alot from it seems like. Flyinhillbilly go with the new version if youre into taking chances. Iv heard nothing but negatives about the first version

Just read the entire thread. Well done.

I am glad to see that you used a space-saver spare. Not too many folks using them, if I am not mistaken. I used one on a trike project (as the front wheel) back around 2002 and am considering using one as a rear wheel on a mini bike build.

You might be able to find free motorcycle hydraulic calipers at your local friendly motorsickle repair shop. Motorcycle shops are great for cheap/free used parts, because guys get new chrome shininess and cannot take the old parts home because motorcycle. So bike shops end up with a ton of takeoffs that are usable but that basically have no value. I find they are happy to give it away. I have scored exhausts, cables, handlebars, brakes and more this way.

Enough of that. Congrats on a great build.

Thank you. I have meaning to go take a look at some of the local shops around town....
I just gota think find out on who's who..... at some of these shops.......

Some, the "Brothers" are welcome, sometimes the average joe isnt so welcome there..... if you catch my drift....

The salvage shop seems to be a decent place, and I might find something there, but he's the only one in town, and deals in jap import bikes, and hes not exactly cheap... he know his stuff and prices accordingly.

I figured I just add to my official thread of my bike.... especially on the brake front that has gone awry.
http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=32685

I went an found out(by accident) the princess has 41 chain, 72t sprockets that are 11.75 OD. completely missed that one.....
Yesterday I went out and bought one, and disassembled the rear end. set up the sprocket and mocked it up for a look.

This morning I started to set up and mount the sprocket, transferred hole from the hub to the new disc, drilled and bolted it up to the old brake hub I had made for the motorcycle disc.
About an hour ago I had gone out for a test drive around the neighborhood to see how thing went.
Pretty fricken good I'll say....
IT will stop slow speeds around the parkinglot..... Higher speeds it will have a good rapid deceleration, even about 65km which was pretty good a slowing.... over all I am happy.....
Who knew just a material change of a good "know" part to an "unknown"......
I just need to do a few fine adjustment, and get the pads to bed in a bit more.. but its good...

Very nice. Are you aware that there are very expensive aftermarket motorcycle pieces called sprotors?

Rotors and sprockets in one. They are very useful on motorcycles fitted with extremely wide rear tires where there is little room to offset the wheel and tire vis-a-vis the driveline because of the tire width.

You might be able to mount the caliper on the other side OR use this as a way to add a second caliper.

You honestly have nothing to worry about. There are Harley shops that don't like folks riding up on Metric bikes, and vice versa.

But...no one cares about a go-kart or minibike dude showing up and in fact they will bend over backwards to help, because what you are doing is cool as long as you are not acting like some sort of fool. This applies even if there are outlaws involved.

In my experience a kid with a quad, minibike, motorized skateboard, or whatever gets free service no matter what it takes. Gotta be stand-up. Go in open and honest and you will never ever have a problem.
