Hello sources of kart enlightenment!

First time kart owner, long time wannabe, finally dragged one out of a friend's barn to rescue it from neglect. This is a father (me) & son project, should be interesting.

My son thinks this is a Manco Quicksilver. Someone along the way has replaced the engine and was in-process of converting it from double to single seat. What you see is what I got. The engine started after draining the fuel system and replacing with fresh gas. Beyond that, I have no idea what I'm working with here.

I've joined to make handy use of the search button, and do my part to keep message boards alive. :cheers2:

It is a Manco but not Quicksilver. Those would have been one wheel peel. And I don't know the name but someone else will probably chime in soon. And for that torque converter, it'll need to be cleaned. No rust and if possible 100% smooth.

I agree with Dingocat; it's a Manco and a good, solid go kart. We can probably do a decent 99.9% ID on it but before we try, see if it has a Manco model # decal on it.

Aside from that, what is it you wish to do with it? Are you trying to make it a two-seater again or continue with the single seat modification?

If the Manco decal was silver and on the floorpan in front of the driver's seat, then it is no longer legible. I didn't locate any other manufacturer markings, though all the safety and warning labels are legible.

The wish is to finish the single seat mod and get it driveable.

Yep, that would be the decal. In any event, I am fairly certain it's a model 485B-1X or 486C-1X. The only difference I think is the engine sizes on the originals. The 485 had a 5HP, the 486 had a 6.5HP.

Both karts are covered by this manual: https://americanlandmaster.com/pdfs/gokarts-minibikes/model-485-486/485486_operatorsmanual_485b1x486c1x.pdf

Feel free to peruse other manuals in the lineup (480 series) at this link and compare parts and shapes:
https://americanlandmaster.com/manuals/fun-karts-manuals/ ...in the event my ID is incorrect. ;)

You're going to need a welder to mount the steering column and brace to the frame. You might need some tie rods too. I didn't see them in your pile of parts. Otherwise, the gas and brake pedals seem very straight-forward.

Thanks for the links.

I have access to a Miller 125, which will be perfect for this project. As far as the known parts I'll need: tie rods and ends for both sides, a throttle cable, drive belt, materials for a seat, and random flat, angle, and square metal stock.

I'll start a build thread soon. . . .

This thread is already the start of a good build thread. PM one of the moderators and have them move the thread into the main Go Kart Discussion forum, or perhaps the Photo Gallery & Project Log is better.

This sub-forum is just for hellos and welcomes but you already fumbled that up, didn't you? :D :D :D

"Manco Migraine" is a great custom name for a go kart, by the way. I can already envision a custom decal for the floor pan in the form of a head or skull with small lightning bolts all around it (signifying pain). T'would be cool.

Maybe with a helmet?
