Mocking up my notches, Its enough to lay 26" of rim and rubber, so I think that will be more than enough for now. I intend on running a set of 15" Z71 chevy stockers with some fairly short tires. (not sure yet). But the highest I will probably go is 18" rims. But we'll see.

Heres some porn:

I still have to notch the front end of the notch a bit more to get it sitting level/at the angle I want. But thats easy enough.

Its constructed from 1/4" 2x3" angle iron. (Just pie cut and bent at the angles I wanted) Saved me a ton of time from trying to fab each side of the notch separetely. And basically I will flipping the stuff over to do the other undersides/opposite sides of the notches. So there will only be 2 seams. Then most likely fish plated too..

I've also decided I will be fabbing everything myself to save money, and its just cool to be able to say I built everything! This includes all of the links, mounting tabs, and anything else I may need. I won't have bags for awhile yet, but just having it 4-linked and sitting on the ground will give me the motivation I need to finally get the bags and rest of the stuff I'll need.

Both sides partially welded in now, just need to fab up the inner portions of the notches and they'll be done. and of course finish welding everything.

Here she sits, rolled out of the shop to catch some of the beautiful sun/weather we're seeing in Minnesota lately.

Yeah, those old pups are known for their headgasket issues. Believe me, I've done my fair share of headgasket jobs on the older Isuzu 4 cylinders. I've actually got a Isuzu 2.3 sitting on my engine stand awaiting a rebuild o_O. And believe it or not, these old carb'd trucks tend to be horrible on gas. with the weber 32/36 on my 2.0 it gets about 14-15mpg on the highway.

120k isn't bad for one of those trucks. And usually the frame rots out long before the motors hatch. (you'll see alot of the older isuzus and nissans at like 150k with 2x4s inbetween the cab and the bed to stop it from sagging.)

i dont think it was sagging, or i didnt notice. 120k meaning kilometers. so around 70k miles i think

i would have thought they were great on gas. guess not haha, well that just defeats the purpose of a small truck.

here i was cleaning the surface on the block

psssh, looks like the instructor makes you guys do it the long hard way. I always just leave the exhaust and intake manifold attached to the head. Saves gaskets AND time with those pesky bolts on them manifolds..

Definitely cool that you get a chance to turn wrenches in school though. Most we ever got at my highschool was a very simple welding class.

And as it seems, wont be much for updates on this thing for awhile. Atleast until spring. Seems like winter finally took over here in Minnesota (little late...) And I was enjoying the 40-50 degree temps during the winter season too!

AGH. Looks like the motor in this thing is coming out and going on my stand. Leaking coolant down the side of the block again. Definitely not headgasket/head problems though. I wiped off the mating areas really good with a rag and watched it while it was running with a mirror. Eff'n thing is seeping coolant out of the intake. Kicking myself in the *** right now for not taking the manifolds off when I did the headgasket to replace those gaskets aswell.

Copy/pasted this update from the set of nissan forums I have my actual buildlog on.

Anyhow, I've been absent from here for awhile, been extremely busy with the truck and other things. Need to start working on the voting system for the buildoff, which looks to be going really good, lots of entrants!

Anyhow, on the truck I've managed to strip nearly all of the paint by hand (ohsofun). Going to be grabbing a gallon of primer soon and start laying that on the panels that don't have any rust. From there i'll be able to start sanding and revealing the small dents that I'll be filling with filler. (the ones I can't fix/pull out)

Anyhow on to the latest update:

Small update.

Pulled the dashboard and pretty much gutted the interior for now. As you'll see in the pictures I need to replace/repair the driver's floorpan and possibly cab mount. Not visible is one little rust spot near cab corner on the passenger side. Which I think is from how they designed/sealed the cab corners. Not sure.

I also really need to take the heater core and vents apart and clean them. Most likely a mouse nest or something of that nature is in there somewhere cause my defroster vents have never seemed to put out a lot of air...

Also found the spoiler from one of my first cars that I scrapped out, and its shape gave me a silly idea.

If I did it, I think I'd have to get fender mounted mirrors too just to complete the image lol.

Did a little bit of work on the driver's door a couple days ago, never got around to posting it.

Its not finished, still need to fold the bottom edge over and finish welding it and slap some filler on it. Looks good though.
