This is my first kart.

I started with a Honda Fourtrax 200sx fourwheeler that had bad bearings, breaks, twisted frame, etc.

It still ran great and was probably fixable but parts were becoming harder to find. I started to pull the thing apart and took the engine/5speed trans out to build a kart.

Initially I planned to make my own frame but found it hard to start not knowing what parts I would need or no basic layout.

I found a 60's Clarke or Rupp (Still undetermined) race frame that was mostly complete. Only needed pedals, break cable, throttle cable and an engine.

I am working on fitting the engine and running lines

As it appeared the day I got it.

The floor was not original and the weld job was terrible so I cut it out and replaced it with expanded metal.

I also started cleaning up the wheels and steering wheel.

Yes I will be using the quad engine.

That is what the engine came out of.

Here is a video of one (not mine):

As an atv, I remember having it up to 47mph. I will be using the same sprockets and chain off the quad. Being that the tires are much smaller on the kart and it weighs less, I am guessing the speed will be slower but acceleration will be much faster

Ditched the quad engine because it wouldn't fit. Went with a hf 212cc.

12t clutch, 72teeth on the axel.

Got it all in tonight. Pics tomorrow

hes using 35 pitch chain so he cant have a 10 tooth clutch and his gearing is perfect IMO. Its not that heavy of a kart!

Aaaah. I didn't notice the pitch mentioned. I had the same problem with my minibike. I wanted to go from a 14 to a 10T, but the pitch didn't allow me. I had to buy a 12T sprocket, and when I had a keyway cut I had to get the machinist to press a collar over it because the keyway nearly went all the way through the sprocket.

Here is a pic of it.
