Chemo? Dang, that's harsh. Best of luck!
So, do you have a long rod from the pedal pushing on the master cylinder's piston, is that it? I can suggest a better arrangement- I'm looking for the thread now.

Mad that dont look strong as the metal crap and weak that the screw is in on that cylinder. There should be 2 hole and theres only 1 and thats the 1 the screws going in.Get rid and get a new cylinder off a pit an keep brake lever on it and link your brake pedal to brake lever on the cylinder so that when you press you brake pedal it pushes the brake lever in.Weld little piece of handle bar to kart to apply the new pit brake cylinder with the brake lever still on it.

So far, there's nothing wrong with the master, or caliper. No need to replace, just remount.

Crap, I can't find what I'm looking for. Okay- Fabricate a bracket that will allow you to mount the master to the framerail using the two handlebar bracket bolts, NOT the handle pivot. Lemme dig up a pic.

Okay- I don't have a pedal pic right now, but you can see how I made an actuator cam out of 5/16" plate steel that goes where the brake handle would go. A heavy cable (in my case a motorcycle rear brake cable) connects from the bedal to this cam, with a turnbuckle for setting the right cable tension. Stops on a dime.

If so i would of thought it would of done 30mph with a 5hp mitsy engine.Them engines are rare in uk and are builtproof. You want to try make it go faster than that.I would aim for 30mph at least.

That engine and clutch wont push that kart more than 30MPH, it'd be much more fun as it is anyway, torque=fun. :devil2:

The part I'd be worried about is the flange bearings in the front wheels, those are designed for walking pace, 30kms would really be pushing those be pushing them to their limit.

Welcome to the forum  where are you from mate?

Thanks

Hayden

My computer's hocking up hairballs- Anyway, go look at the pics in my previous post, while I try to dig up another. I was looking for one a little more zoomed out that shows the master bolted to the framerail.

EDIT- Here's one- the framerail is hidden behind the sheetmetal...

restrictions in the head itself ? i have tuned the carb but havent re-jetted it . if i was to remove the governor could i use a small carb of a pitbike ? and just limit the throttle and put a spring in the throttle cable so its got abit of play ?

Hi mate, it's a sidevalve engine so the ports are in the block, not the head, you can smooth them out but I wouldn't touch them unless you want to take the head off, otherwise little particles of metal will get into your engine and ruin it.

A pit bike carb would go great on that engine, you don't need any form of governor because the valves will float limiting the rpm before anything breaks, it's not a good idea to purposely make the valves float though.

Those old Mitsubishi engines are rare, I'm not surprised you couldn't find much on them! From what I've heard they're pretty good, you'l probably have trouble finding parts(such as gaskets) for it.

Things you can do for more power from your engine: (considering no performance parts are available to fit)

  • Pit bike carb
  • Performance air filter
  • Porting the inlet and exhaust ports
  • Reliving the block
  • shaving head (not much though, don't wana kill the flow)

The last 3 would require a complete strip down of the engine, if you are going to do that then I would suggest getting new piston rings and (of course) lapping the valves.

Could you give us a picture or measurements of your custom exhaust? We may be able to help you to improve on it.

Thanks

Hayden

i think ill just add a pit bike part and remove the governor. just incase i cant get gaskets and spares. How do i remove the governor on this engine ? is it just a matter of taking the arm off and bypassing it or do i have to take the gears out ? at some stage i will port it. thats if i dont get a bike engine for it ?. The exhaust is basically just a straight through pipe im not sure on measurements as i just wacked it together :p. its high flow though .

Na, you have to take the gear out, don't just bypass it. Go down to a lawn mower workshop and ask about getting bits for your engine, you might be lucky!

Bike engine would be 1094x better than the Mitsu (or any other industrial engine), they are so much fun on a kart!

The diameter and length of the exhaust determine how much more power that exhaust will give and at what RPMs so yeah.

Edit: is the exhaust the one in the pics you posted?

Thanks

Hayden

Chemo? Sh!t mate, I hope that works out for you!

That bike engine sounds like a pretty good deal, reverse and electric start are awesome on a kart! Make sure it comes with the wiring loom and carb ect though, if it doesn't then it's a pretty average price...

That exhaust looks fine, it'l be good for when the governor is removed.

Thanks
