Not sure if you have them over there but we have floor mats that look like aluminium diamond plate; could be a cheap alternative to aluminium if you decide to go that way...

The aluminum seems sort of cheap though (Yes, we have them at Home Depot), I'm looking at machined aluminum.

I take it you wont be riding in the rain to much to keep the radio from getting wet or it is water proof?

I'm going to coat the wood in polyurethane, to protect it from moisture, mud and such.
I don't drive in the rain, because of the lack of a roof. Or mud flaps.

VERY nice dashboard!!!! I'm trying to decide how to make one for my kid's kart. How do you plan to enclose the back of the dashboard for hiding wiring and such, or do you plan to enclose it?

I saved the project for this summer to finish it.

It's going to be a square wood box. I welded metal box tubing to support it. Everything will fit in there, along with two f150 speakers.
