I'm quite disappointed that you've missed the easiest, most obvious way to gain horsepowers and torques. Even more disappointed that all the village elders have yet to offer up this little gem of advice. Please remove the powerband and paint it red and reinstall. Everybody knows red stuff goes faster. Lol

I was gonna offer that advice....but at the time, I was helping a buddy of mine work on his airplane and he sent me to fetch him a bucket of propwash!

Y'all are both wet behind the ears.....everybody knows the EASIEST way to gain 5 extra horses is to get your free DIY sticker and put it on the center of the pull start!

Say what you want about me... But Lurch9,
That was pretty good for a First post.:welcome2:

Been looking for over 24 hours. I'm not sure my engine came with a power band. Is it around the circle things?

But he had 3 or 4 months to think about it!:lolgoku:

Yep, I've been quietly lurking in the shadows, reading and doing research. Also learning where the good solid advice comes from.

I commend the OP for his enthusiasm, however his execution is lacking. No offense, just my observation. It seems as though the board has become tired of him completely ignoring good advice. I truly hope he gets this thing operational, but there is a long road ahead.

Out of respect for the OP this is my last non-tech post I'll put in his thread. Before long he will have a wheely-poppin, tire-squealin, axle-twistin, corner-driftin, franken-machine...woooooooo! (Sorry, I had a Ric Flair moment).

i just found this vehicle on the net and it has me dreaming again..

except mine would be mid-rear engine.
That particular model is called the Holden Commodore SSV UTE

In America we called that the GTO, then the G8 GTP, then the Caprice PPV

What do you guys think about welding on top of a camshaft and then grinding it down to the desired lift and duration along with cutting and re-welding the cam to adjust the centerline ?

i just wanted to see what you people thought about it.

I think it is a BAD idea. It is a precision built part of the engine, and welding anything to it will unbalance it, no matter how good you are. Get the correct cam if you want something different

Why don't you get the kart in a decent rideable shape and not worry about the engine

Why not cut up and modify the crankshaft while you're at it, add like an inch more stroke for extra torque monster fire smoke burnout.

i figured it'd be well worth buying a macrometer for and grinding small segments at a time, Slow and steady wins races in this case.

i don't think i'd have too much lift where i'd need to grind the block like some cams require
and
i would adjust the centerline a bit further apart for more rpm to go along with the lift and duration.

and getting the kart is shape will be the first thing i do,thanks. but since i'll have my own personal welding machine by friday i figured i'd go ahead and plan out things to weld and modify such as the Exhaust, cam, steering, reinforced frame length, and i would like to sell some parts for money or trade so i can do a live axle.

Please report all progress made with Personal Welding Machine and cam modifications. We could all learn so much.

You would be way better off running the engine on nitro methane and methanol. With all the heavy duty parts you have in that engine it should be able to handle 80% no problem.

Denny

maybe for the secondary boost carb since they sell 30% here at walmart. 30% may be a bit too high, i maybe should go with 20%. either that or just get nitropropane and mix it in the gas.

Translation: I'm going to get a different cam and since I have the old one laying around, I thought I'd cut it up and practice welding on it. It will never see the inside of the engine (except maybe for pics) . I just figured since I'm so much smarter than you guys...I'd keep playing games and making an A$$ out of myself...because I crave attention.

I like to think I'm fooling you guys with my superior intellect, but then again, I live in a different reality.

I have an extra bottle of "nitropropane" laying around you can have for $100....

Back in the day, they didn't have aftermarket cams. So they "reground" stock cams. They basically remade the shape, smaller, than took up the slack with longer pushrods or lash caps. They never welded them larger though.

Not to mention most are cast iron and not easily weldable, and they require special equipment to get a mirror finish on them.
