hi all as the name says im building a super charger for a small engine such as a... briggs, gx160, clone and pritty much whatever elles you put it on lol. hope it works i just stared making the housing will post pics a little latter. might goin in to prodution mode if any one elles would like one after im done the proto type. if i do it could be made out of bilet alloy and milled i just have to set my mill up (i have to fix a spindle bearing as it has worn out) let me no if any one wonts a price.

i don't think that your blower is going to apply much pressure, maybe a pound

if you wanted to make one i suggest a disk faced true with slots running straight out from center

or if you wanted it to be stronger make two disks and bolt it together(the bolts would have to be flush) it would be heavy and take a long time to spool/ put a high load on the drive train, but you could get some good pressures out of it

and for the housing make one sorta like how you have it but there has to be close tolerances between the wheel and the housing (height wise in your picture)

a centrifugal supercharger is all about using gravity to compact air
a larger diameter will let you run slower rpm, but it will take longer to spool and there will be more friction
a smaller diameter will allow it to spool faster and be more energy saving, but you will be running dangerously high rpm and it will have to be balanced within a fraction of a gram

you could try taking a leaf blower housing. its plastic but still strong enough to handle the force

leaf blower can push 200mph air out of a 2" hole? should be plenty of psi from it. though some consider dan's project a supercharger, really all it is, is a belt or otherwise driven turbo.

no, its a centrifugal super charger

a turbo is a type of supercharger but instead of running directly from the engine its powered by exhaust gasses

its doesn't take that much pressure to move air fast when you are blowing enough of it
leaf blowers are made for moving mass quantities of air not pressurizing air

lol just saying

if you want to get pressure out of it then the vanes have to be longer to allow the air to "stack up"
the more air you have stacked up the more centrifugal gravity wants to pull it out of the center of the wheel

thanks for the vid its the same engine mine will be goin on i dont like how he has a blow though set up on it but yer very nice other wise. TURTLEMAN can you draw a pic on what you are surgesting for the "drive disk" that you were talking about sounds like it could be made out of alloy to make it lighter to spool faster. as for the clearnce there is like 2mm ether side of the turbine (fan) but the photo doesent seem to show it. i dont think it will make much boost presure ether so a new turbine might need to be built. please dont foreget that this is just a proto type and our engine we run on the karts anit that big any way lol. its not like im putting it on my 1000hp drag car engine wicth i do have one lol.

hi all done some more work on it and im goin to make a new turbine for it can some one surgust some ways of doin this ive got an idea but ill let use come up with somthing it would probly be better then my idea lol. here are some pics hope you like it.

hi all my charger housing has turned to **** its just not as nice as i wont it to be so im goin to buy a turbo then pull the exhaust turbine of the back so im just left with the compressor end then machine a bearing holder and run a pully of the back of that just like in the vid.

if any one has a turbo they dont wont send me a pm ill be intrested.

this will have passages for the air to stack up in as it spins (and will look a lot like the exducer on the turbo compressor, except for it not twisting around)

the turbo idea is good, but i don't think the bearings will hold up to the tension needed to turn it with a belt (you would need to make a jack shaft for it with a high speed bearing)

and remember car turbos can turn upwards of 130k rpm(depending on size and material)

what are you planing on using for bearings?


very simple, just slots across a plate. but you would still have to balance it as well as you could and then some
