the front shocks im using are the front forks from a 70cc honda knock off dirtbike. they seem to fit the bill for now, definitley aren't too stiff and they felx out nice but im not sure i will keep them under there because they don't have as much travel as id like them to have. the rears will probly use the front forks from a 125cc dirtbike to help hold the extra weight of the engine.

Ugh. Install the shocks on an angle, and/or use bellcranks to soften them up. Adding weight hurts performance, and adding a car battery, well- ugh!

i also like them because they add some good looks to the cart . they look very similar to the nitrogen shocks that some highend mud trucks and monstertrucks use

ok heres the update . ive got a lot done in the last two days but kept forgetting my camera at home . i got the yokes and the driveline disk brake mounted on the transfer case, i stretched the frame 6 inch's right by the gas and brake pedal for more leg room , cut and bent the shifter to where im comfortable shifting it while driving , built the rear suspension and have some coil springs in the rear for now until i find some more dirtbike forks to replace them. i also built some support brackets for the two link mounts on the frame. heres the pics:

front and rear suspension all in place ( still need to make track bars and the suspension is done)

front output of the transfer case with the disk brake mouted ( still need to make a bracket to hold the caliper in place)

rear output of the transfer case and the newly bent shifter

the supports i made for the two link mounts on the frame

I know I've expressed my power concerns, and you'll cross that bridge when you get there. But I do have to say that with that aside, this really is a cool project! As I'm sure you can tell by my screen name, I've got an affinity for all things four-by. What this equated to in my mind is an interesting scaled-down mudbogger or rockcrawling rig. I can't wait to see how this rig turns out!

i do have some pics of my trucks posted up in the off topic fun section titled "post your car" .

didnt get much done today as work ran later than normal. i added another crossmember to the frame to support the brake caliper bracket i made and added a support to the transfer case crossmemeber. i got some skidsteer tires on it for now ( they were free), they're 29 inches tall with no air in them but with seeing tires finally on it im thinkin i might go with a 27- 30 inch tire when its all said and done. but anyhow heres some pics. i also did some measuring on the body and i think im going to widen it between 4 and 6 inches. in the pics below the body is mocked up to be 4 inches wider than it originally was , i would like to hear some of you guy's thoughts on this as i don't want to go too wide with the body.

brake brackets and tcase support with the new crossmember

a first look at it with the tires and body

Is that a Millermatic 250-something in the last pic? We use Millermatic 251's where I work, they're awesome machines  I could almost tell by your welds that you were using a Miller! Mine look very much the same. How old are you, mudduck?

right on the money with your guess. i always used lincoln welders when i went to school but i worked at musco sports lighting for a long time and all we used out there was 251 millermatics and they are really great machines. easy to tune and very trouble free.

im 21 ....... i know i know im a little too old for a gokart but im building this cart for my son so he can have somethin to wheel with till he gets old enough for the full size trucks, he's only 6 months old right now but i figure ill get to play with it for a few years before he can reach the pedals:wai:
