yes theres a small baseball size hole. thats all.

taking the fuel pump out isnt that rare espesially as there is ofeten a screen on the fuel pickup

i dout u need to drop the whole back end out

On that particular car you do need to drop the whole rear including the exhaust and remove the fuel tank to replace pump. Or you can do as most and cut a hole in the trunk and replace it with a larger piece of sheet metal and some good sealant when done.
I have owned 4 3'rd gens. 84 firebird, 91 firebird, 85 Iroc Z and and 88 Iroc z. The fuel pumps are a pain in the arse.
