Where did you get that pic? Is there a story that goes with it? Very cool.
I plan to build a gearbox for a project of mine using the engine/gearbox from one of the Chinese Honda copy motorbike engines, I plan to simply remove the head, barrel, piston and rod, make a blanking plate for where the barrel used to bolt on, remove the flywheel and fit a sprocket there and cut the cases to suit.
Obviously, there'l be an imbalance there but single cylinder motors(what it will be coupled to) aren't exactly smooth running anyway. If it shakes to badly I'l lathe up a bar to go in place of the crank.
The great thing about all those Chinese engines is you get the choice of reverse (obviously a good thing on a kart!), semi auto if that's your thing and you could use a genuine Honda motor and get hi and low range. No idea how much torque these things can handle though.
When I do it, I'l document it. I'm yet to get a motor to experiment with.
Of course, it'd make much more sense just to use the whole bike engine but where's the fun in that?
