A 6HP is way too much power. You are going to be tearing the scooter to pieces.

This is what I mean about the scooter being torn to pieces. There is too much torque on a 6HP. You want to gear at 5:1. That is not low, but it is low enough to produce too much torque for plastic to hold up for long

I know fixing things is part of the whole DIY thing, but if you are going to be fixing things every time you ride the scooter, it is going to get old really fast.

With that being said, I would also like to see how this turns out. You might even prove us all wrong

id suggest getting a metal rim instead of plastic. or instead of chain drive friction drive. IMO chain would be way better

I'm building a smaller version with a 25cc line trimmer engine. Not only is it way too much power, your balance will be all over the place

The problems (and expense) will mount as time goes by.
I envision some serious issues with stability/safety.

how do you think motorcycles stay up the faster they go the less the rider has to try and keep the bike up. yes i realize that the weight is centered on a bike but i can move the engine as close to center as possible on the scooter

no i'll still stand in the middle i meant put the engine in the center over the rear tire not in the middle of the scooter

A standard 12" bicycle wheel will work & it will have a sprocket if you find a rear

look around for a 3hp briggs, i used a 3hp briggs tiller engine on a gas scooter frame, i removed the old engine and mounts welded custom mounts for the 3hp briggs and made side to side slots with my angle grinder to aline the chain, went good up all hills went about 40kph, i had a 11t clutch and a 72t sprocket running a 10 inch trolley tire, and those scooters are not good for building a gas scooter, the tubing is really thin and is hard to weld without melting through, frame can buckle easy, with 6hp you should just build a mini bike, it took me 2 days to get my mini bike built and driving, http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=13883

fabroman what type of rear are you talking about for the tire.

but i decided if it was a scooter i could ride it to school and other places

i kids bike usually has 12 inch tires. if you can find a rear tire from one it will already have a sprocket on it

i found a tire i had a little kids bike in my backyard and it does already have a sprocket

thats good. but chances are you are going to have to put a bigger sprocket on it

i would but then i have to take the sprocket on it now off. it is currently 16T +/- 2T

what size chain does it take? im guessing since its a bike it would take 421 IIRC. and that would snap from the torque of the engine

but it might be a number 40. standard for modern bikes. just measure the pitch of the teeth.
