motor does not rev all the way out?

hey guys
wen i rev my motor out it doesn't seem to get to 3600 RPM's sounds like it hits maybe 2500 and sounds like it hits a rev limiter like a car like bounces off that RPM. isn't a governor supposed to keep it at a steady rev?

Sounds like either your governor needs adjusting, or something got bent,

no its a brand new engine how do you adjust it?

Running lean, thats called surging.

It's hard to say without seeing it, if it's a lean surge, you won't be able to see anything, but your spark plug will be very light grey to white. If it's a governor problem, you will see the governor arm moving in time with the surging.

I have seen governors add on to an existing lean surge.

Could be, but if it's a lean surge, the plug should tell the story right quick,

If its a lean surge, the governor should move with the surge also. Plug chop first, then check linkages. It very well could be a large burr in the main jet or something, chinese things are known to be less than perfect.

yea true enough my go kart will be runnin by the end of next week. im so excited!! its my first build! but yea the governor does move with the bouncing of the RPM but after i get it going ill check the spark plug

if its new then take it back and exchange it.

Is it surging while you ride the kart or are you just free reving the engine?

just free reving it i realized it wen i just pulled it out of the box (and put the fluids in )

Then meyby it wont surge when its in a kart under a load.
