What do you guys think man's most useful invention has been?
I'm not talking about discoveries, but rather something that was created from raw materials to serve a purpose.

I'm going with the spring.

I have to go with Texan on this one; without the wheel, we wouldn't have much at all...

The issue with the way most people interpret that is very narrow minded; think bigger picture, how many parts of an engine wouldn't exist without the wheel?

The word "wheel" is defined as "a circular object that revolves on an axle and is fixed below a vehicle or other object to enable it to move over the ground" but, in broader terms, it's "a circular object that revolves on an axle to transfer a load"...

Still that is just too easy!
I wanna go with "Sliced Bread" since Gravity has been deemed a Discovery!

And leaving out the bread slicer ... Well, we wouldn't have that either..

Gunpowder?

For the win....... In a shtf world when the wheels are flat and we are eating unladen bread. Gunpowder will feed and protect us. Stock up on acid and saw dust .
