well tonight i was planning on slappin together a cheap weedeater bike. I have everything i need, and it would only take me half an hour to weld up the mounts. Anyways, i dug out my box of string trimmer and chainsaw engines, i had one weedeater that someone gave me which had no problems, its a weedeater x250 or something, only 18cc and it always had carb troubles, i cleaned out the carb gave it some fresh gas, and it started right up on full choke, but would not run without choke atleast half way on. I cleaned the airfilter, still no luck. It will run fine without choke and no airfilter on, and will run the exact same way with airfilter and choke fully on. I know nothing about carbs as many of you know, but i heard somewhere that running choked is bad for the engine because its running (lean?). now if i just run it without the airfilter, how long would it last?

no but there pretty clean, this thing wasnt used much since the guy before me broke the flex cable thing so the trimmer part wouldnt spin. How long do you think it will last without the airfilter? i have a whole other block with good piston and everything thats the exact same as this one, so if i could get a year out of it i'd be happy.

Im retarded...Turns out i wasnt reading the thing right, and it was running without choke fine, but with choke it would stall, so yea lesson learned, dont be a retard :roflol:

Anyways, it was running good for a bit but then it stopped revving up, but im almost positive thats because i dont have a fuel filter.

Ok now it will idle at half choke for a bit but stall when you try to revv it up, i already cleaned carb, i guess i didnt do a good job?

Edit; i cleaned it really well, but it still wont run right, it starts at full choke, idles real low then dies, when you switch it to half choke it goes to normal/hi ish idle then dies, and if you take the choke off completely it just dies. At full choke it floods out if you give it gas, at half choke it revs funny and floods out after a few secs.

Its a 2003 weed eater, so no needles to adjust (**** EPA). anyways, i decided to go out one more time and try a complete carb swap (I'm sick and have no energy so just walking out there takes a lot), i searched through my boxes of weed eaters and chainsaws and found a carb off a 25-30cc poulan saw, nice old walbro with both high and low needles, cleaned it up and after a little bit of trail and error adjustment this little thing screams! I need to fine tune it, but for now it idles, starts, and runs like it should, I dont think my neighbors were too happy about me starting up engines at 9:15 but hey, i dont care.

9:15?
bah, it just getting dark around that time!
i did my whole lawn around then today! lol

of course my mower runs smooth and has a new muffler...
one of my neighbors on the other hand.... its terrible, sounds like the muffler is burnt out and it runs really rough...
i sometimes feel like stealing it, fixing it, then putting it back just so i dont have to listen to the darn thing! but it will prob die soon anyway (i hope) lol
the worst part is that he just keeps using it like there is nothing wrong. :/

crap, im rambling again lol

anyway, post some pics off the setup you have when its done! i want to see how its set up

Will do, i can guarentie ****ty work, especially if i do it tomorrow, since im still sick.

The only reason the neighbors would get pissed is because there like all over 80 and have nothing better to argue about.

Well i dont have the right size pipe to make a spindle for this weed eater, so i went through my boxes of weed eaters and saws and no of them have all the parts to run, out of 4 poulans, and a mcculloch none were complete, they all need either rings or coils.

I bet you will never guess which was made best out of a weed eater xr50, 2 featherlights, poulan mini saw, and a mid 90's 31cc mac something.

That mac is really well made, i would never have guessed since most of them never work right (newer ones), its got a 2 piece block that splits at the bottom (like a car oil pan), really nice crank and a 2 piece connecting rod like a briggs (not sure if thats good or not), its a cool bore, nice piston, and just generally really well made.
