Ok, I am going to cast my own pulleys. I have made the wood template on a lathe for my 5.5" one. My gear ratio is 2.5" on engine. 5.5" on jackshaft. 2" on jackshaft. 5.5" on wheel. Puts me at a speed of about 20 mph. Belt tensioner is going to be on the second set of pulleys.

If i could find all the **** materials to make a furnace, i would totally do that. Pulleys are so **** expensive

Yea, it's about £15 a pulley on eBay, but they don't tell you anything much about th usually. I am first going to try and make a simple furnace, by putting a steel bucket full of aluminium in a charcoal fire, surrounded by bricks. I dunna if it will get hot enough tho, if it fails, I will do it at school.

I dont see that working well at all. If anything, try something more like a flower pot. I dont think an open charcoal fire will get hot enough anyway. It needs to be contained in a container and insulated

6:1 will be ok, but if you want go with 7:1 it will reduce your top speed though.

I was going to dig a hole in the ground and surround it with bricks and have a dustbin lid lid. Could someone tell me where pullys are measured from, as in line the edge, or right in the middle, if that makes sense

It should work then. Just dont use a steel bucket, it'll get orange at least, and if the charcoal is contained, it'll probably melt. I think pulleys are measured from the outside edge.

Just found it. Apparently pulleys are measured from the outside edge minus 9mm (for my belt)
all the flower pots I have have a hole in the bottom.
I will go for a 1:6 ratio, and possibly have a gear I can change to make it 1:7, and 1:5

My ratio: 2.1 on engine. 5 on jackshaft. 2 on jackshaft. 5 on wheel. This is about 1:6, but I can always make some more pullys if it doesn't work

Aluminium shrinks about 1% when its cast, remember to take that into account.

I'l be looking forward to seeing how this goes.

I know everyone will probably say not to, but I am getting a minimoto brake caliper for £4 to see how well it will work, and use my old worn out kart sprocket for a disc (if it fits). I want to see the quality and the stopping power of these cheap brakes, as they work on minimotos, why not a minibike?

the main differance in the stopping power is that the engine is more powerful, go for it chances are it will have good stopping power. The youtube link dont work lad.
