nice, looks a bit big for the engine (size of frame), For your steering, i cant see those bearings at their full potential, might just be the way im looking at it. Loving the wheel

Yeah the engine is kinda small, but I'll see how it goes. It's a 2.2hp g100 (they make a 2.5, but why don't I have it :L ) the bearing outer touches the plate holding the forks. The inner touches the tube that the bolt goes through. The bolt moves with the plate, and the whole system feels smooth. How would you reccomend doing it? The wheel works well, but is a little small. The kart was made from my own plans inspired by the go kart guru plans.

Ok, glad you like it
I am on my half term soon, so hopefully I will weld the engine mount on, and paint her up. I still have loads if machining to do unfortunately, such as another pulley, the jackshaft, and the rest of the hub that mounts on to the wheel. Hope to finish her by Christmas .

hi guys

right where was i? (for anyone reading this in the futre, the forum lost some data )

i have painted up the frame, installed an engine mount, and got her pretty much working, apart from the engine doesnt idle, it will only start at high revs, and if you let the revs down it dies!!! i have cleaned the main jet in the carb.

i have also started to make a mudguard, as you can see from the pics everything gets a bit pooey, and crap is getting fired into the air filter.

i have also got the pictures for... umm the member i cannot remember the name of. Sorry!
the wheel is held on by a 16mm bolt, and the bolt goes through two 16mm i/d sleeves welded to the frame.

the steering and forks are again attached by a 16mm bolt, and some bearings and washers (see pic). The bolt (red) holds it all together (blue forks to frame) and the bearings make the whole thing smoother. the bearings do not work off the inside of the bolt, but rather the frame and the forks. the forks rub against the bearing outer (yellow) through a washer (purple) and the frame rubs against the bearing inner (orange). this setup makes the steering smoother, and involves less wear.

Ok, yeh that's what I was saying. I can't move it across into the middle or my brake disk hits the frame. I shoulda made my frame 1" wider

Ok, more pics. I painted up the frame, a few coats of primer and a coat of red hammerite. unfortunately i ran out, and have a few patches of gray. oops! i ll grab some pics soon

haha i know, the motor is a bit tiny! i may put my clone in
i will get a vid when finished, but unfortunately, the red paint looks a bit crappy and patchy i need to buy some more MY MONIES!!!!

Hi,
i had a little ride with no controls today, needs controls to make it fun though, so back into the workshop i go .
What are peoples opinions on the best way of connecting the cables at the end with out the nob on?

if its for the throttle a cable barrel should be just fine,


i have also seen people use these, not sure what they are called.


for the brakes i would suggest something a little bit stranger like a cable clamp,


also, if you haven't got something setup yet, instead of using zip ties to hold the cable housing, i drill out a normal bolt to make one of these,

Hi,
Thanks. I have already set up the cable with zip ties. I couldn't be bothered to do any thing else. Shows my laziness! I have some of those wire connector (see pic) which I will try, as they are similar to the barrel. For the brake and belt tensioner I will wrap it through a few times, to make it hold better.
I will see how it goes tomorrow

Hi r chez

I was wondering if you wouldn't mind showing a diagram with the dimentions of your bike. I was looking at the plans you had drawn up in the beginning of the thread, and they don't look exactly the same. I would like to make one similar to yours, and with my engineering and mechanical skills being practically zero, it would be nice to have some dimensions for my first build. I am going to use a 3.5HP Briggs in my bike.

Thanks for the pics of your bike, as well as the angles. I appreciate it. Could you maybe also tell me how you mounted your rear sproket to the wheel? Also, what size are your wheels?

I like how you have mounted that mudguard. I suppose it isn't something you think about untill you have stuff all over you.

Hi,
I have some pictures of how I mounted my pulley to the wheel on my pc (I'm on my iPod). They were on this thread, but.. Yeh.
Basically, I had 3 parts. My pulley, a homemade hub and the 11" wheel(from a ride on lawnmower.) the pulley connects to the hub by a keyway, and the hub to the wheel as I filed a little flat, and put a keyway in. Kinda hard to explain. I made the hub and pulleys at school on a lathe. I will grab the pics later.

Ok I tried to have a ride today.
Problems (in order of priority)
1. Better air filter needed.(would a normal sponge work?)
2:mudguards
3:my belt is wearing down on the tensioner quickly.
4: engine doesn't like hills.

What do you use to tension the belt? The engine may not like hills and bog down because it isn't getting ample air. Could you try running it with out a filter for one test drive to decide if it's your filter or not?
