I feel that you should knock off the big loose pieces first, but I wouldn't touch it either until BigHead chips in. It may be ready to clean, prep, and paint as is...he's the expert.

I would definately use POR 15 but I think you should spend some time and take a wire brush to the frame to remove any loose rust, then use some sort of degreaser to clean it instead of just painting over it with no prep what so ever.

Your right Ill either pm bighead or see if he chips in.

I tacked together the rear bearing carriers today which turned out good. Just waiting for my pillow blocks to come in the mail so I can start on the rear a arms. I might just start without them and hope for the best.

What they should look like in the end

Here's about how wide the front end will be minus the tires

Got a package from BMI today. Now I have my bearing hangers, and disk. Hopefully Ill get some more work done later today

This looks really cool!

Thanks!

I tacked the the bearing hangers in today for the center axle. Took a long time to get everything level and square, but I got it in exactally how I wanted it. I put the axle on it to get a idea of how wide this will be when its done. Hopefully tomorrow I will get started on the rear A-Arms! I think Im also gonna do some "ghetto machining" of my own on the cv housings to prep them for the machine shop.

Found out that spare change really works well for spacers!

Thanks! Sorry man but not for sale lol.

Got allot of stuff in the mail today. 4 Pillow Blocks, Idler Sprocket, Civic Rad, and Taillights. I started drilling the holes in my bearing carriers for my bearings. 1 of the 3 holes didnt turn out how I wanted it so I'm gonna have to fix that tomorrow :censored: . It really takes a long a** time to drill holes in 3/16 steel. If I can get all the holes drilled tomorrow in the other carrier I might get the a-arms started.

Almost finished vs unfinished

Looking good. You did well with those carriers

Thanks landuse! I welded up all 4 a arms today. They turned out nice. I put them next to the buggy to see how wide it was going to be. If I did my math right the buggy should be approx. 80 inches wide in the rear with wheels on it  . Im going to the salvage yard tomorrow to find a seat, and a rack and pinion. Hopefully Ill get them for fairly cheap

What are the axles from?

2001 Subaru Impreza Outback

Went to the salvage yard today. Picked up a miata rack, geo metro master cylinder/booster assembly, and a nissan something or other seat.

The housing on the rack is steel so I should be able to weld it back togeather.

Geo metro master cylinder/booster.

Nissan seat. Going to cut it down and cover it so it dosent look so bulky.

I also got my 4 heims in the mail.

Got the rear suspension loosely bolted on today. Its really wide, wider than both of our cars... It should be really stable though  .

Well I guess ill be going for a long travel setup! Didnt know how wide it would be till I actually put it togeather.

If your wondering why the left tire looks flat it has a leak that I need to fix. Does that tire slime stuff work?

holy crap! look at that wheel base. you need to shorten it.

Wheelbase Should be fine as is. It looks alot longer than it is because of the camera angle. When its finished the wheelbase should look something like this.

Lovin that thing!

Same here lol. I didn't know if I would like the wide stance, but the more I look at it, the more I like it
