I really hope beside looking epic it, it also performs epic and not make the Epic fail list; womp-woomp- wooomp.
I went and bought enough angled steel to run the length of the drum, but i didn't account for the ridges in drum. So....I went with my original idea of just using the 4 pieces to brace it.
I squared, plumbed, and accurately measure each piece. When I set drum drum on top there were gaps of up to 3mm, that would not be good for securing and welding. I tapped and butted each piece of angled steel up against drum wall, then tacked in place. The pieces deviated inward, since drum is NOT perfectly square itself. So long story short,2 length wise pieces would not have worked.
I did also practice welding on scrap pieces of the drum, since it is thinner than angled steel. I just concentrate the torch on the thick stuff with an occasional pulling of the weld puddle on to the thin stuff.
I might also for extra safety make some steel bands like
this.
