New here, so I hope i am in the right area.
I need some help/information on an Iron Horse 2 stroke as fitted to Morrison lawn mowers, made in New Zealand. It has an internal coil ignition system and no throttle control. Governing is by ignition cut-out.
Any help?
Bill

what info you after?

morrison is the budget brand for masport. How old is your mower?

any questions i can ask the old fulla at the mowershop for you. He will have alot of knowledge about these engines. Once was a time that every sencond lawnmower in NZ was ironhorse powered.

Hi sexyvicta,
The machine I believe dates from the early 1960's. Masport have no knowledge of this unit, in Australia or NZ. I am after details of the governor system particularly, but all I can obtain otherwise.

Hi sexyvicta,

the guys who work at masport now may have no knowledge but the old timers at lawnmower shops are who you need to talk to. Masport/morrison get their mowers made in china now and fit chinese or brigs engines so they prob dont know much.

Im trying to win an auction for like 4 of these old mowers so may be able to help in like a week.

and yeh as russ said your engine should be the same/similar to a lawnboy of the same age.

do you have a picture?

edit: my grandfathers first motorised lawnmower was a side discharge masport with an ironhorse in the 1950s i think

you could try email this shop the old guy there knows a lot about older stuff:

Thanks for the info. My engine has an internal coil and points, and there is no throttle control. It appears to be an earlier model than those shown in the manual you directed me to. The governor system looks similar, and works mostly the same way, but no throttle control. Any other ideas?

Back again. I have taken some photos, and hopefully attachn them OK. Looking a little more closely, the governing system is mechanical on the carby, but the bits between the arm and the carby are missing. The photo from sexyvicta is similar to my unit, but I think a later machine.

yeh the masport mower above is not one of the earlyist models.

If nobody in aus can supply parts then email that shop above. I bet they will have a solution and they ship international.

/keep an eye on trademe there are ironhorse engines on there all the time for very little $. If you find one that suits i could buy and post you the engine / parts

was guna buy this the other day but forgot about it. Sold for $27

Thanks sexyvicta, This engine looks much like mine. It would seem the main details/help I need is the rod connecting the governor arm to the throttle control. I have checked the trademe site, but not being a member, I am unable to bid!! Your offer may be very useful soon!!. Bill

We never throw anything out so chances are it's probably in here somewhere!

he has old tecumseh parts which i havnt been able to find in auckland so probably has old ironhorse engines aswel. - he sees keen to ship $5 parts to auckland so not much harder/expensive to send to NSW

Latest update. Did a little fiddling with the mower today, and actually had the engine running for a brief time!! Thanks to information from here, I managed to hook things up for it to actually give a bit more confidence in how it went. Now I can finish it off.
Some photos of the mower for anyone who can identify the model and year of manufacture.

Hey all, Saw one of these on ebay in Adelaide SA two weeks ago, it was called a Vulcan Masport and sold for about $100 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180669138853&ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT I had never seen one before...it looked pretty sweet. Looks like a nice motor, I like the timing plate idea...Im interested in the Aussie Kirby Tecumseh engines KAV 87's etc...great on a kart ported with a 7/8" Tilliston and an expansion chamber (I promise I will share some pics) 4.2 HP stock... over 12HP "tickled":devil2: which has to be started with a 6 volt Williy's Jeep starter motor off a 12v battery....would love to find a few more of them....But the Lawnboy looks to be a sweet motor...would love to find a few of them too....I think I have a baby version on a leaf blower from the 60's now I think about it, have to dig through the shed...:censored:
