My wife gets AG cause I'm constantlylooking on craigslist and other sites and drivin through neighborhoods tryin to buys atv's n karts sittin in backyard. ... :wai:

I think I will just buy the engine and transmission. Im just not sure what I would do with A dirt bike that has no engine, brakes and transmission. Im pretty sure I couldn't sell it…

Im not sure how they will ship it… Im also not comfortable with a stranger coming to my house to deliver it or me going to their house to get it.

You dont buy a quad off eBay and ship it. Find one near you. They are on craigslist here everyday, lot of em cheap. What ever parts you have left, YOU sell on ebay to make some money back....
As far as the stranger part goes, always have an adult you know and trust with you and that they know what is going on.... :thumbsup:

Well, I have started to design the frame. Im basing it off of the Wankle kart because the frame seems to have to be able to hold up to the power of the wangle engine and if I get an ATV or Dirtbike engine, then I want to be sure that the frame can hold up to it.

I have an idea I stole :oops: from somewhere but I can't remember where. I will post it if I find it. But anyways, it is an idea I had for the front suspension. The spindle can move up and down with a spring onto. The mount is taller than the spindle to allow for the movement. I only need to find the spring that is stiff enough to actually do something. The kart with me in it should only be about 175 lbs, so half of that is roughly 90 lbs and half of that is roughly 45 lbs. So the spring has to be able to hold 45 lbs and then the actual load under a bump.

Fabroman used valve springs from a car to achieve that quote: "the lightest" he could find.

Yes, That is the post! I was also wondering about brakes. Can I use bike disk brakes? If I have 3, 2 on the front and 1 in the rear, then I think that they can handle it. Two can handle a mountain biker going down a hill at 30+ mph.

I wouldn't even try with bicycle brakes;
at the same speed a kartframe has -what- ten times the kinetic energy than a bike frame?
it's not about speed, but about force!

Well if a bike and rider weighs 200 lbs, that means that each brake has to stop about 100 lbs each. If a kart and driver weighs 200 lbs (I am skinny) then that means that each brake has to stop 66 lbs. And since most of the stopping power is in the front brakes, then it should stop sooner because it has 2 front brakes.

This is all theoretical, so I'm not sure how this plays out in reality :lolgoku:

SEEMS LIKE A SPRING SETUP LIKE THAT WOULD HAVE A LOT OF PLAY IN IT AND KEEPING IT LOOBED WOULD BE A NIGHTMARE. Cool idea props there. Practicality meah. I'm sure it could be made tight. Maybee humer needs to be calling you fab for a job. That could be a Hell of a way to get crazzy clearence without exposing some softparts. A arms and such.

Correct Sid, the front suspension is extremely hard but, it's not rigid. As my kart is built as a road/racing style kart, very little movement is needed.

FYI: many Manco karts used this style front suspension; that's where I got the idea from as my build is a Manco replica so, hack, no you can't steal it from me coz it's not my design :D

Oh ok. Im just not sure he thinks they would fail. (I respect your statement though)

Ok, so a bike with rider weighs 190 lbs. 2 disk brakes can stop him.
A gokart with a driver weighs 200lbs. (Im very light) Im not sure why 3 disk brakes would fail?
