Just picked this up yesterday for $50 off of a friend. He gave me a good deal cause I give him my scrap and other things he can sell at yard sales and stuff. It has a 5hp briggs with a Comet torque converter. It has compression. The inside of the tank is a little rusted so I didnt try to start it.One of the side rails needs to be welded. It also needs all new tires.I havent seen a carb quite like this. Not sure if I should buy a new tank and carb or a new engine . It's a little bit rusty.Nothing a few rattle cans and some sandpaper wont cure.
I was thinking of makig a General Lee one like I seen here a few days ago. Any info on what make model # it is will be appreciated.Took me about an hr and a half to take it all apart.

That looks like your standard B&S carb...

Depending on how bad the tank is, there are several ways to clean it:

-If it has heavy scale rust, a small handful of medium sized gravel will break it free; place gravel in tank, shake tank, rinse...

-If it's only light surface rust (or even heave surface rust), get yourself some hydrofloric acid (not to be confused with hydrochloric acid), pour into tank, replace cap/seal tank, swirl & shake around for a few minutes (the worse the rust is, the longer you swirl), drain & rinse tank with water & leave to dry

That looks pretty cool... Being as I just joined this forum 45 mins ago. I'm not going to be of much help.... I picked up this one on Saturday for my little dude... They look similar but the engines looks a little different. I'm thinking mine is from the 80's as well but not exactly sure.... Hope all goes well on it..
Here's a pic of mine. Pretty much the same cart only a different color and a little different engine configuration.

Thanks'sid- I was going to say it was a 415.....but now we have a consensus!

And Ohsoblue92- don't let that stop you... (being new)..... You never know how you might be able to help- and you're not new - just fashionably late to the party!!!!!!

Really glad you posted the model number itsid.I been trying to find it.I think the only thing i need is tires.I would like to put bigger ones on the rear.

ON a different note.I am having a heck of a hard time trying to grind it down and get into all the tight spots.I am using a 11,000 rpm grinder followed by a orbital.I haven't tried the detail sander yet.I'm thinking i may have it all sandblasted.Does anyone know approx how much a frame cost to get blasted?

Its a very basic engine used on lots of things and very common. Any small engine place even Canadian tire homehardware lowes ect... would have them on order.

I wanted to go with a bigger rear tire .I was wondering if anyone knew what size tire i could use on the rear and the front to beef it up a bit.I did find the same tires but turf style on BMI store.Do i need to order inner tubes as well?
Other question is on tires do i go up by the first number?I am assuming the 15x6.00-6,the 6 meaning the rim size.Could i go up to 18x6?

Just keep in mind that getting larger tyres equates to gearing higher as well. If you go too big, you might have to gear a little lower. You will probably only find this out when you ride it for the first time

Sandblasting and grinding are two different things. ....If you just want to remove paint...a drill and wire wheels will do wonders.....

And I've never understood why- but people discount the power of sandpaper and the human hand......

I know power sanding, hand sanding all too well and am very good at it.I own a painting company and specialize in power and hand sanding to give the proper prep.It is harder to get the desired effect in the tight spots on metal.Plus i have other projects i would like to have sand blasted such as 3 gang boxes and maybe a few more go karts.

Well your previous post suggests that you don't know as much as this one does.....I don't own a painting company. ...but I don't seem to have any problems prepping anything for paint.....

I have a pretty extensive array of tools that I use for each situation. ....and the mere mention of a detail sander is a red flag that you are headed in the wrong direction. ....I own one and have found it semi-useful on maybe 3 occasions in 20 years....

I also own a sandblaster. Small and not too effective but good for the last little bit of tight spots that you can't get to. ...

As previously covered in earlier posts......why take powder coating down to bare metal? Again- another thing that I don't understand. ...

Rant over....

I sent just the frame off to a company to have it sand blasted. It will be done tomorrow and ill have a quote on having it powder coated. For $60 its well worth it.Not sure how much powder coating will cost.I am hoping about $75-$100.

I got the frame back from getting sand blasted and wow what a nice job b they did.For $60 ill send them everything I have from now on.1 thing I have to remember is not to n use a grey primer.Had a hard time seeing what was primed and what was not primed.I wanted a sparkly candy apple red or maroon but couldnt find any at H.Depot or Lowes so I went with the cobalt blue.I did a quick few coats.Theres a few imperfectiona and sags but overall I am happy.Going to give it a clear coat tomorrow.I changed the rims from black to shiny grey.I gotta figure out the engine situation. Not sure if I,m going to keep the Briggs and put on a new carb and tank or get another Preditor.uploadfromtaptalk1397342672837.jpguploadfromtaptalk1397342698261.jpguploadfromtaptalk1397342719768.jpguploadfromtaptalk1397342734153.jpg
