take the head off and check the rings. also take your finger tip and place it on top of the piston and wiggle the piston around to see if it moves. if it moves alot you need to rebuild your engine also check for cylinder honing marks. take your palm and place it over the cylinder and turn the eninge over by hand to see if it has good suction. if you see oil on the sides of your cylinder abuve the piston thin thats not good you need new rings mabe more. also if you do this take some pics of the inside the the cylinder for us.

I got the belt on the torque converter replaced and my kart runs really well. Unfortunately, it still stalls out after a couple minutes of use. I do ride my go-kart on a hill and it seems to stall out going downhill. It's weird.

There is no smoke. It just cuts off like it does when I hit the kill switch(tried disabling that and the cart still kept on stalling out). As to low oil shutdown, I honestly don't know. The engine is 24 yrs old so I'm not that sure if it has an oil sensor or not.

:wai: I think he has a fuel problem. You mention a carb kit, On those up draft carbs, they warp between the top side and the bowl side if the person who rebuilt the carb did not check for warpage you could be sucking air between the two halves. That carb kit comes with several gaskets that go between the two halves, if he/she used the wrong one it will block the bowl vent. Also did you install new gaskets where the intake bolts to the block and where the carb bolts to the intake? If not could be sucking air. Also where are the ajustment screws set? If you still think it is the rings do a leak down test. That engine being 24 yrs old there probably is no low oil shut down if there is it would be on the engine side facing the seat.

I want to thank everyone who helped me by giving out advice on my go-kart. The problem was the guy I paid to fix the engine put in the wrong kind of carburetor and had the RPMs waaay too high. So, I got all of that fixed by a different guy and my go-kart was running great. Now, I start it up and when I press down on the accelerator, there is a LOUD whirring/grinding noise and it shakes really badly and won't go. I am extremely worried that it's the end of the line for my go-kart. Anyone know what this could be? I appreciate any help you all can provide. Thank you.

That sounds like your clutch. If you have a centrifugal clutch it might be toast. Post some pics of it

Honestly, I'm not too gifted mechanically speaking, so I don't want to take anything apart. I also don't even know where to look(I actually posted pics in this thread a while ago if you want to look at them). How much would a new clutch cost, roughly?

Just a crazy idea....are you sure that there is gasoline in the fuel tank and not something else? Could water (or something else) be in there with the fuel?

...& how can you be sure the fuel you put in was ok? That statment makes me think otherwise.

Think about it, kart was running fine, you put fuel in & it starts acting up; in that situation, my first thought would be bad fuel

I probably should have worded it better. I bought 5 gallons of fuel and filled up my go-kart multiple time with it because I ride my go-kart a ton and never had any problems. The fuel that I put in a day or two before it is the same fuel that never gave me any problems.

If it stalling after two minutes it's a carb problem, I have a honda mower that did the same could not get my head round it, took out the main jet and there was the smallest bit of debris blocking the whole.
So what was happening was you where getting a float chambers worth of fuel then it wouldn't fill up again as the small bit of debris was stopping it.

Might be both...engine lost power...as a result fried clutch. .....

My money is on fried clutch. ..tho....

ALTHOUGH. ...sounds like that engine was never 100%....'shrugs'....

Yeah debris wouldn't cause loss of power but would the cutting out after two minute about the time a float bowl lasts.
As you rightly point out a fried clutch would.
Btw my dingo project is coming along very well, just need a couple of tyres for the front.
