more problems. The sprocket is moving on the axle even with a 1/4” key and the hub with a locking screw. It carved a deep cut into the side cover. I’ve been fighting with this the past few hours using blue loctite on the screw and re-aligning the chain. Test riding and coming back to see the groove kept getting deeper, and then it moved to the other side hitting the driven. I bought locking collars, loctited those and it still moved. Any ideas?

also here are a couple pics of the torque converter plate With the spacers.

The set screw locking collars suck. Use the split kind if you want to lock something down. By split I mean 2 piece with 2 Allen screws to lock them down. Or better yet put some kind of spacers on the axle.

That’s originally what I wanted to use but didn’t find any at the hardware store, I’ll have to find some. I put a small divot with a drill bit in the axle where the lock collar screw makes contact and loctited them in place, I’ll let it sit over night. But definitely will have to find some soon

Simplest 1" and 3/4" spacers in the world are available in any hardware store that sells pipe fittings. Or you can pull some out from under your house. A 1' axle will slide right inside of a piece of common (galvanized or black iron) 1" pipe, like a pipe nipple a few inches long so you can cut the threads off and just use the smooth part. Same thing for 3/4" axle into 3/4" pipe. It's a pretty good fit, even with the seam that runs along the inside, plenty good enough for spacers for sprockets, bearings, pulleys, you name it. Pics below of 1" axle with 1" galvanized pipe for spacers, and DOUBLE-SPLIT locking collars (NOT single-split) all over, you can slap them on anywhere.

I actually was thinking about this late last night, I don’t have the old spacers on the axle, (but I kept them). The old axle had the spacers on the outside ends of the axle, I still have them and will put them on today, I ordered some split locking collars Coming Friday to add next to the sprocket hub.

I should have paid more attention and thought more about it, there isn’t anything holding the axle from floating left or right aside the brake rotors, and sprocket. There were reasons why Manco and other makers puts spacers on the axles and in between the other parts.

thank You Denny and mad professor for that info!!!!!!

Finally bought some conduit and made several spacers on the axle and used double split lock collars and got everything tightened up and screws have blue Loctite on them. Did a decent test ride tonight seems like everything held up and did not move.😬😬😬😬😬😬😬

seat to get re-made
A pair of simple slab cushions for seat and back? Are they actually remaking the existing, or starting from scratch with some measurements and some new seat foam material inside?
You mentioned a canvas shop, would that be a ship's stores shop using actual weatherproof canvas like on boats? Very expensive if so.

There remaking the existing seats, going to try and use the old foam as long as its not deteriorated, so I guess I could say, new vinyl covering. They are making a pattern for the seat, ( I have another exact seat to make), once the pattern has been made, it’s cut, fit, sew and I get it back. They did tell me foam is through the roof right now (as is everything). So I’m hopeful they can reuse the old foam. They asked if I wanted any embroidery or vinyl decals done, said I just wanted as close to original as possible. I’ll post picks when it comes in.

So a long 2 month wait to get this sucker back, I think it turned out great!!!! The old seat was dry rotted and had a couple holes in it, along with the bottom board was rotted in the corner.

Blue Water Canvas out of Hayes, VA was the company that did my seat, they REUSED the seat foam to help save me some money, also were very attentive to what I wanted to have done. (On a budget)

After dropping the seat off they had to pattern everything and get all the measurements straight and cut the seat back and bottom from marine grade materials, also the vinyl they used was a marine grade to and a lifetime thread. Total cost for cutting new vinyl, using old foam, cutting the new seat back and bottom sewing everything up (which was 6 hours or so) was $189. Not bad I feel like for a super quality seat that’s made in America. I did ask what a complete start to finish with all new stuff was floating around $289. As with everything material of all sorts is going up so hopefully that price will stay that way.

Looks good, hope to see some videos of it in action once complete. I have the same kart, but everything on mine is still mostly stock. Looks like quite the endeavor to replace the rear axle

Thank you!! It wasn’t to bad, just the frustration of getting the axle spacers to the right size, and squaring everything up. Definitely had some help with members from here 😉😉. Plus this was a first for me, so some struggle was to be expected.

Dang fine-looking kart, Possum. Marine grade everything seat, huh? Very cool, get caught in the rain, you can just jump off and leave it out there.
Theoretically I could 😏😏. But that’s one thing I hate to see is nice things sitting outside in the weather. Seen to many go karts, mini bikes, atvs, dirt bikes just sitting getting a permanent tan. Mother Nature sure is hard on stuff at times.
