Manco 405 Restore

....Unfortunately though I was unable to salvage the Manco decal. There was a lot of rust underneath it and it was spider cracked in a few spots.

Pity you couldn't save it. Sometimes the decals preserve the paint and steel underneath and sometimes they're just hiding rust and trapping moisture.

Hopefully you'll be a better owner and not leave the kart outside, eh?

Got the new motor and stage 1 kit put together. Was overall a very easy task. Also, wire wheeled all the orig hardware to clean them up and going to start assembling tonight. I am having some difficulty finding tires. I have the orig rims but I was thinking of maybe adding some wider slicks in the rear or some sort of wider all terrain tire for gravel streets up north.... any input on this?

In terms of width, you can go the balloon route and put tires on that are slightly wider than the rims. The sidewalls will bulge out past the rims a bit, but it can be done.
On the contrary, you can put slightly skinnier tires on the rims as well.
On that good lookin' Stage 1 212 hemi, did you remove the governor or not?

I was looking at doing the same thing, except going from the balloon like tires to turf tires. They could mount up fine, but would have rubbed on the spindles and the chain cover once placed on the kart. Measure carefully.

And no I did not remove the governor because my nieces will be mostly riding the kart and well I thought it would be wise to not give them too much haha however, maybe in a year or two I will. Do you recommend removing it?

You can get wider rims, however you may have to put hubs on there to mount them to the kart.

Wouldn't I have to convert to a live axle then? Currently have a single wheel setup

As long as a suitable hub can be bolted up to the rim and the rim fits, it should work.
If you have a 1WD setup, I HIGHLY doubt you have 1" bearings.
Measure the inside diameter, and the outside diameter of the bearings, and report back please.
My 1WD kart has 3/4" ID bearings.
I wouldn't remove the governor for your nieces.

Current status. Got the front end assembled, motor mounted, throttle cable ran, rubber mat glued and all parts cleaned up. I am now currently waiting on new seat, brake band, tires and rims from gopowersports.com.
