Lucas Octane Boost In Clone, Simple Question

Have any of you guys ever ran Lucas Octane boost?

I ordered a 14cc Head and I have a flat top piston which should bring up my compression to 11:8:1. I have 93 octane but i'm affraid of detonation, I was going to use 1 ounce to a gallon which should bring it to 96 Octane, is it worth it?

i'm going to jet it a little rich for it and run higher octane to prevent detonation since I havent adjusted the timing yet. I'm wondering what gains i'm going to get from a 8:5:1 compression with the stock 22cc head to a 14cc head at 11:8:1

Ummmmmmm, why would it run hot or melt the piston? Unless it's running lean it won't melt, octane has nothing to do with melting the piston or running hot. You may break a rod or piston from detonation, but it shouldn't melt.

Exactly running lean will melt the piston. But with higher compression you run higher octane. For an 11.0:1 comp 93 octane will do fine just slightly adjust the carb and give it 1*-3* timing and you'll be running smooth.

why not just get 96 or 98 octane fuel from the petrol station? They have it there. Saves mixing it and probs costs less. Not sure if its different in america or watever but over here we got 93 96 and 98 from memory. the 96 and 98 are the fuels for the "performance cars". I dont think higher octane fuel would do much in a clone. In a 2 stroke yer but single cylinder 4 stroke i dont think so.

I have a billet rod so i'm not concerned about the rod

I have no timing advance yet thats why I was wanting to run the lucas octane booster

Higher octanes actually burn cooler....

If you do have problems with 93, you could buy AV gas. Not as expensive as race fuel but its 100 octane...

Just a quick question I was wondering as I read this...
If his engine does start to ping, can you hear it as easily as you can in a car? Or can you not hear it at all?

I live in a rual area so gas is cheep here... its 2.50 on average a gallon for standard gas,
premium 2.80
98 octaine is about 3.40 a gallon

so if you get one oh say 5$ bottle of octain boost which is good for 4 gallons it will be cheeper to get the octain boost then the high octaine fuel... oh yeah remember im in a rual area and those are my gas prices there are places were its still 4$ a gallon for crap gas...

America uses a different measurement of octane to the rest of the world. I don't remember how different it is, but they can get 89 octane (?) which is the same as our 92 octane, IIRC.

Lol, Detonation is heat, Thus melting pistons. Detonation will punch a nice hole threw a piston in no time.

Right, kaz was saying it would run hotter on 93 octane than 89 though, which is the opposite of what would happen. You cant really hurt an engine from running a very high octane fuel, you can hurt power though.

It's still flooding itself, Idk what to do.

It has alot of mid range now with the 14cc head but it murdered top end, it cuts out like a rev limiter on top end now, its weird

or at least thats what it sounds like

How can you hear "pinging"

In cars pinging sort of sounds like a fast higher pitch metallic knocking sound. Its sort of hard to explain. Once you hear it you'll always know what it is. I assume you can hear in on these engines as well, but it probably sounds different.
