Hi,,
I am single mom to a ten yr old son. He has been asking or a gokart for a while now.

I got laid off from my job and was certain that this christmas would suck for him, but as always my friends came through for me.

I was able to get him a good used Manco Coyote LXT (one seater) with a 5.0 HP Tecumseh motor for a couple of hundred $$.

Now, what all this means is that Mom must now become the "expert" on all things go-kart related.

So,,, what to I need to know first?? We started it and got it out and rode it. It runs good and fast and brakes well. It seems to be very cold blooded and will sometimes stall when the gas pedal gets pushed.

Can I buy mirrors, lights, bigger tires, etc for it to make it more "tough" looking?

I appreciate any and all guidance.

Lights you can buy yes you might need to have someone you know install and wire them for you.
The tires yes which might acctualy bring the speed down or the excel down i forget which one it will decrease.
and mirrors you can get some mirrors from them and then have someone install them for you

I hope your son loves the kart!

Bigger tires would slow down the acceleration, but increase the top speed.

Its probably stalling due to lack of fuel. try unscrewing the adjustment needle on the bottom of the carbeurator about a quarter of the turn. maybe more if needed. it takes trial and error to get it right

I've found that on my go kart, if the idle speed is set too low, when i begin reving it, it stalls. That could be you problem. Or if the gas in the tank is old, that could also cause it to run baddly.
