Awesome guys! Thanks for the ideas and submissions. A good friend of mine (that owes me a favor!) is a graphics guy, and I'm going to give him these ideas and thoughts and see what he can turn out of them that will look top-notch. I spoke to him last week to give him the heads up that he needs to start thinking about it.
any news?

Well, we shall see what the prize is, if they give me a green light...... Maybe cash ($100) , maybe a clutch/chain/sprocket combo, maybe a 212cc predator...... who knows......
The idea behind it is sentimental, and can be summed up in one word..... giving
Every thanksgiving, my wife and I gather the fixins for a GRAND turkey dinner for 8..... and then I find a needy family in my fire district to give it to. I wear nothing to say who I am or where i work, or my name..... I simply tell them" its from our family to theirs in hopes that we can relieve some of the stress of making a dinner , so that you can spend that time with your family"..... Because I drive a "big red truck", I have been recognized , but nothing is ever said.... and noI dont take the BRT (big red truck)
At Christmas, we spend about 10% of my x-mas bonus on toys to donate, like before,to families that I KNOW need it....
When I am in the dumps emotionally, I tend to give...... it brings me internal happiness in return..... my way of being selfish. It is only I that gets that joy......
Enough mushy stuff......

You're a good man, Jim- The world needs more like you. And the fact that you do it anonymously is what's so cool. You're not swinging a billboard that says "Hey, lookit me- I'm so good". Nevermind that, it's disingenuous in my opinion. What you do is the real deal.

Thanks, Doc.... Its how my parents raised me. Not like todays parents.....

To our moderators and everyone else here, I apologize for this rant; it didn't start out this way, and if you feel the need to do anything with or about it, I apologize in advance.......Pat

 While I think we can all agree that there are some real   :ack2: types out there today, and there are more of them than in years past, I don't think the Paris Hilton's of the world are as common as the media would like us to believe.

Jim, as a fireman, you know better than most that no matter what the level of risk you and anyone else on the front lines of public safety, the only way your names and deeds will ever show up on the self centered media's radar is in times of great tragedy, or some form of scandal, real or otherwise.

Case in point; I live in Vergennes Township, Kent County, Michigan. We don't have our own fire dept.; back when I was a child, and the 911 system was first being proposed for Kent County, mine and several other Townships that didn't have their own dept.'s, looked at the #'s of fires a year, and decided to contract with our neighbors who already had all of the infrastructure in place. A fixed price up front to be in the group, and a rate schedule for what it took to douse the blaze; both are renegotiated at the end of the current contract.

Where the supposed scandal comes in? In a given year, the people involved in planning usually try to hedge for the (supposed) worst case year of faulty wiring, gas leaks, lightning, etc. I may be wrong, but I believe the Township charter allows certain budget surpluses to be monitored and carried forward, within limits. So what do you do when an arson ring of ~ 12 to 14 middle and high school students go on a spree over 5 Townships in 2 Counties, as well as 1 village and 2 small towns?

The calls of scandal came from a bunch of cheap skates who went to court, claiming that the Township had no right to propose a one year, one time millage to cover the debt we, as a township, owed to our neighbor's for them coming at once, and both putting out the fire, and preserving the evidence that put some people away for awhile...

What really PO'd a lot of us was the fact that the local :censored: talking heads were all over the arson case and preliminary trials, and were more than willing to give mucho air time to the "individuals" of this group, yet never seemed to notice that one of leaders' of the group was trying to sue one of the responding Townships for damages for not getting there fast enough, while at the same time filing suit to keep his township from paying for the the people who risked life and limb to try to help him.......

That crap happens everywhere..... One city mayor in my district, tells her family that they can burn (anything they want) during a burn ban. They can burn tires and carpet..... Then when we go put it out they raise all kinds of crap talkin "we'll sue you, our kin is the mayor, you dont know who you're messing with".... We file a report, environment cop comes n takes pics, issues a fine, they get PI§§ED , they call the mayor, and then it all dies down for a while. Mayor starts refusing to pay for our services knowing by law we are STILL required to run their calls....... Its just a big F ING HASSLE. .....
This cycle repeats almost every year. The elected officials are all related one way or another or are "besties" (best friends)......
I do my job absent of ANY payment. I buy a lot of my own personal gear. Its EXPENSIVE to operate a fire station..... NO ONE WANTS to pay for it, but COMPLAIN that they dont have it..... As long as we got water, fuel in the truck, and a couple guys , we will keep doing our "job".....

I think we had a conversation like this a few month ago,
again jim I love you for being that kind of man.
You are a hero!

The thing I don't understand is that mayor thing you have goind on in small to midsized towns in the U.S.
What's with that..
We had a mayor a couple of years ago... she sold a house (cities property) to her brother in law for about 60% of it's value..
she was kicked and sentenced to pay the differences plus a 'OMG that's huge' penalty !

Then about a year ago, I heard a story of a german city council member -well let's say he had downloaded unacceptable images- he's still in jail.

And then a few weeks ago I heard this story of a high school girl in a small town in the U.S. stunned and raped by the some senators grandson orsomething.. and the district attorney just closed the case [and there was VIDEO evidence!], she had to move,
it was her fault all of a sudden...
because the boy was a great football-star in that town and his parents are demi gods or something....
also 'she wanted it' 'cause she wore a skirt... :censored:
(Maryville I think.. well, I'm sure you heard that too)
I was shocked seeing something like that happening anywhere in the "free world";
I just don't understand things like that.
let him have a nice guantanamo vacation for a year or six...

Same thing with the mayor allowing an illegal fire, How is that even possible?
(okay much less of a personal tragedy of course.. )

'Sid, you pretty much hit the nail on the head in the case of the victim being persecuted instead of the perp. I grew upon the edges of that culture; when I was in high school, one of the "darlings" of the football (American, not European) and basketball teams was the son of the town mayor. He and his cronies seemed to get away with just about anything, much of which should have at least gotten them removed from all athletics as punishment. When the new Principle and assistant Principle tried to do just that (i.e., obey the rules and do their jobs) they were the ones who were the targets of the witch hunt. Justice of a sort was finally served several years after I graduated when the mayor's personal business was investigated for tax evasion and fraud; he didn't do any jail time, but both his business and political career's where over.....

And many small towns in The US are basically B & C grade soap opera's looking for their own cable channel's. A great many elected civil servants feel that it's their *** given right to act as if they are, now that they've been elected, in fact are now our civil MASTERS. And it's truly sickening how much of each others filth they will cover up and hide to keep that cosy status quo going.....

One thing that's actually starting to have an impact on this type of corruption is the same shallow media that will try to create a scandal out of nothing on a slow news day has a total field day when they find the real dirty laundry. In my part of the state (MI), over the past couple of years several major corruption cases have been exposed with some really pompous :censored: finally getting their just punishment..... Makes you wonder just who the anonymous sources really were......

All of what you both speak, is only a small part of the fuel in my fire...
The world today , almost completely sickens me. The injustices done ALL the time. The one that gets my goat though, I simply CAN NOT STAND TO SEE CHILDREN GETTING SCREWED OVER.... Whether its by the parents, family, foe, local government, state government, and yes, dare I say our FEDERAL government..... no toys cause ma and pa are alcoholics or dopers. No food or clean anything....
Crappy upbringing, no childhood ....... Ive seen a lot of stuff, as a father and as a fireman, that would infuriate you fine gentlemen as much as it does I. Ive been escorted from a medical scene involving a small (SMALL) child, by the cops...... As a "first responder" ,Im almost always the first one there, except for S.O (sheriffs office) and this call, it was the S.O ,me, a firefighter,(im an officer in the fire dept. ). My Ast.chief was in route, medic squad and ambulance just pulled up. Im inside living room with patient, mother in bedroom, father and s.o on the other side of couch in living room. Me n FF are taking vitals and proceed to immobilize fractured arm and a torn rotator cuff (not known then). Listening to his "story, it just kept eatin at me... somethings not right,SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT! Squad medic comments, "looks like it was pulled backwards"........ The fathers eyes n ears perked up, and it clicked..... I stood up, took two quick steps and used the couch shoulder/arm rest as a booster to jump up at at the father with my forearm . Quick *** S.O CAUGHT ME in mid air! (Hes a BIG dude) We both toppled into the.father, all of us hitting the floor. I got elbow him a good one in the ribs before squad and S.O got me up n outta there. Nothing was said, nothing was done,..... to me

The father on the other hand wont get out till mid 2017....... The mother lost custody of the child and also is serving time for neglect and something else kinda unrelated. They found drugs in the home and the mother was positive for drug use.

If you noticed, not once did I say mom and dad....... NO MOM and DAD would EVER do this kinda crap..... Without getting into details, the patients arm was hyperextended to the point of fracture and rotator cuff damage. And did ANY of you hear about or read about it? Nope..... wasn't big enough news I guess..... Thats what I thought originally. Turns out, S.O buddy tells me it happens so often that they just dont show it. Its depressing .......
Man, this one went waayyy out there....
