Alright everyone the white 5hp is mine for the work it takes to make one of the frames run and ride with the predator. the 212cc is locked up.. I don’t know if they ran it out of oil or let it set in the rain... 1156ECE0-3E66-4F35-BCBB-5E52B6762AC2.jpeg

I see 1 of those totally useless aftermarket air filter adapters on there, that tells me the piston, rings, and cylinder are probly ruined.

Throttle rod looks kinda janky, so theres a good chance the gov has been boogered with, and rod is probably done for.

You jus never know til you open ' er up.

That will do it!!! I popped the head and took this picture then came inside to set a bit and post. Any ideas weather it will clean up and run? More so any bets? HahahahahDF5489BD-21A2-4181-9BFD-58FAFB717937.jpeg

YIKES!

I suppose it's possible. Take it all the way apart and examine. That weird sludge sitting there, what is it mud or rust?
So far I am only seeing light surface rust on the cylinder bore--that will hone or (600+ grit) sand right off (or steel wool, etc).

Not worth rebuilding.

New ones are cheaper then rebuilding that one.

There's probably damage on the cam & lifters too.

You can clean it up, buts it's not gonna last long.

Kids bring me crap like that all the time. It never works for them.

Good luck 👍

The kid has no money I’m getting a 5hp in exchange for the predator running. NOW hopefully I can scrounge around and get this kid a working mini... he’s told me he asked so many people to help him... I thought the 5hp alone was worth trying.

Yeap, sounds jus like some kids I got around here. Some are jus too small for any body to allow them to mow or weed eat yards, to make any money for their selfs.

I put their lil butts work, hauling trash, keeping tree limbs off the trails, small stuff like that.

If you can get that gov back working and keep it around 3600 rpm, it might live forever. It's gonna depend on how much damage is in that cylinder under all that muck. Too deep and it's jus gonna eat rings right outta it. Honing it too much will allow too much piston to cylinder clearance, which leads to too much blow by.

I'll look tommorow and see if I got a decent 212 block left. I dont mine helping kids out if they wanna learn.

The scrap man hauled off 11 blocks ouuta here last month.

Since the Briggs flathead design is so forgiving, why shouldn't the exalted Chinesium 212 also rise from oblivion with a simple take down and cleanup? It's locked up, because there's visible rust in the bore, and for all we know that might be it. I've seen worse brought back to life.

Not worth rebuilding.

Poppycock! That is your opinion and "worth" is very subjective.

New ones are cheaper then rebuilding that one.

The days of $99 HF Predators are no more and I'm also not talking pristine, brand new parts, aka using the Parts Cannon to fix it. There's used and new Predator parts for sale all over cyberspace now.

There's probably damage on the cam & lifters too.

Won't know that unless he takes it apart.

That’s the spirit! hey it’s set in stone I get the predator running the 5hp is mine. I’m not gonna ask the kid to clean my gutters he already gave me a good 5hp so a deal is a deal.

Is this predator safe to run a hone through in case? it‘s not an aluminum bore and will destroy it??

Heck yeah, I'm a perennial optimist here and I say go for it. Won't know til you know...

Predators have a steel cylinder liner and can be honed, but people also hone the Kool-Bore aluminum cylinders on the old Briggs flatties so the point is rather moot. Briggs officially doesn't recommend honing and going up to the next size piston (or just new rings) but the racing guys did it anyway, if I recall correctly.

Ok thank you I was terrified at the thought of aluminum and a flex hone.. steel liner! awesome. I have a picture incoming and I’m running out of light. gonna scramble here for tools.

Caveman explanations people... the sleeve locking collar looking thing and saw blade looking thing will all cut off exposing a 3/4 shaft? just want to be extra sure. The big puller wouldn’t do it... he has no parts for whatever it is... so it has to come off. I need under the sidecover for inspection anyway. Next question found This laying by the head. I assume it’s either expendable or the engine will blow up without it. does anyone have any ideas where this goes?53849D42-F40B-4963-AE23-D5BF52CFBE0B.jpeg4C819D6B-086C-4661-B5C0-3C673E5E5AAC.jpeg

The saw-blade-looking thing is the back side of an old centrifugal clutch. Not sure why the shaft has a sleeve on it, is the clutch bore 1" in diameter and the sleeve was added to size up the shaft to fit?

I'm sorta drawing a blank here, but it appears that sleeve on the shaft is part of the clutch, i.e. the clutch bearing...(?)
See if there are any set screws around the circumference and remove them, I think I see the edge of one at 9:30 or 10 o'clock on the shaft.

EDIT: I don't know what the part is in your other photos. Keep it all the same.

P.S. I think it is a cylinder head "dowel", a short piece of tubing used to line up the cylinder head to the block. There is one visible in post #3 at the lower left as you are facing the cylinder/piston

That was easy! Thanks! The set screws were not even tight. I new about them just didn't think it was worth hunting and Allen wrench. it was totally worth it!334E8D5F-305E-4775-A3AD-625914AD7D95.jpeg

Ain't nothin to it! Just glad you're going this far and have already had a massive success. When I saw the photos I groaned and thought, welp there's a big battle waiting for him: removing rusted-on parts....😭

maybe the Kid didn’t bring me junk after all.. maybe the smallest bit of rust on the one weight. The cam and lifters look new? So i’m gonna clean it out with rags for any dirty oil leftover oil it all really well and start to get the side cover back on.
