LCT CMXX 136cc - Throttle Linkage Issue

Hi All,

So I took this engine off a Manco Black Widow Go Kart. Owner said it "Wouldn't Run". Of course you never know what that means. I tried and tried starting with no luck. Gets spark and carb was getting gas. So after looking at the carb further, it was definitely filthy with all sorts of buildup, and the float bowl gasket was completely shot. Gas was leaking out. Purchased brand new carb from Amazon for $14. Tried installing tonight, but having real issues . I can't seem to get this linkage correct. I don't even think it was right when I bought the go kart either, as I had just noticed. So basically, when you try and advance the Main (Metal) Throttle Lever, it does not open the throttle plate as it should.

Now, after looking at the Predator 212 that I threw on the Black Widow, it looks like there is a spring underneath the throttle lever? That would make sense to hold tension and keep it closed. When I looked at the LCT, the old carb did not have that same spring. The new one from Amazon doesn't have it either..........so I'm lost here. Just can't seem to link it up where it should hold tension to keep it shut. I even tried reversing the rod and spring on the governor end.......had no affect.

I also checked the Amazon photos of the carb, and there is NO spring underneath that throttle plate lever.

*NOTE - In the LCT pics, you can see the small spring is not attached to the throttle. I tried connecting several times exactly where it connects to the throttle on the Predator, but it doesn't hold it shut. Just didn't want someone to say "Hey....you don't have that spring connected......" LOL

Even if this spring was available somewhere, I don't think this lever comes off. I tried pulling it off to see if it would. Gotta be missing something here.

If I can't get it fixed, I'll just sell this for peanuts. I was hoping to get at least $50 for it if I could fix this linkage issue.

I did post this on another forum, but did not get my question answered. Someone just said "That tiny spring doesn't do anything as far as returning the throttle to idle. It just keeps the slack in the connections from wearing the holes and letting the engine vary in rpm." Well geeze thanks.........didn't help me figure out what was wrong though. LOL

Hi Everyone,

No need to reply. I ended up attaching the one end of the spring to the pull start housing. That seemed to be the only way it would keep the proper tension on the throttle lever and keep it shut at rest. No idea why it wouldn't work like the Predator set up.....

I'll be throwing this engine on FB Marketplace to sell now .

Could you show us a pic of what you did? The small spring that's on the linkage from the governer arm is used to crack the throttle when starting the engine. The governer is partly what does the job of returning it to idle.

I'd be happy to send a pic, but I literally just sold the engine! LOL. As I mentioned, I attached one end to the throttle lever (as normal), and the other end of the spring I attached to the fins on the pull start housing. It seemed to work pretty well.

I'll attach a drawing of what I did. Should make sense. The spring runs underneath the fuel line.

The small thin spring around the gov rod cracks the throttle open and allows it to start..

Now get a preditor...
