Hi everyone.

i have a carter trailhunter with the tecumseh 10hp motor.

im still trying to understand small engines.:mad2:
other then the usual shaft direction (H vs. V)

is there any difference in power?
would a lawnmower power be the same as a motorcycle engine if they were both 250cc and 4 stroke??

im jus curious if this... VVV would be a good motor swap.,

thanx

the plan is to have bigger nobbier tires. live axle.
tougher steering. and new shocks.

no. the 250cc motor cycle would be more around 20hp.

Edit: or maybe 15hp i have no idea on exact numbers but it would be more than the lawnmower engine.

it says its rated for 16hp. the tecumseh 10hp feels like crappy and has no get up.
2 adults realy bog it down.

is there a way to have the motor cycle engine on but keep it automatic?
if not i can rig up a shifter and clutch pedal

fast is fun but i need more torque to hog through mud

yeah but you would love the gears. but you would have to take the gear box off the engine then fit a Torque Converter to the Out put shaft.

hmmm. what way would be better if i had a live axle fabbed up?

the option was to get a quad motor so i would have reverse and a good rear axle but i havent seen any for a good price lol they are all $1000+

well i would say look for something with reverse. gears would be much nicer IMO.

you could also look for snow mobile engines, most come with a Torque converter.

i looked through the stickies.
not sure if i seen it but is there a link or a website or a DIY on how to make a live axle?
a 2 dedicated tires that pull together?
would a live axle make it slower?

would be cool if i could fab up a disck/caliper brake instead of the crappy brake band stuff

umm take pics of your axle setup. maybe it has a Differential. raise the rear wheels and see if both wheels move when you throttle up.

Umm what? Thats the stupidest idea I have heard. You can get automatic, semi automatic (No clutch) and manual. Depending on what you buy. There is virtually no way just to 'remove' the gearbox. The bottom cases are moulded as one.

Go the bike engine, you wont regret it!

Jeremy.

ite. ive been poking around at all types of engines that would work.
the rear axles has bearings. one wheel to the right has the big gear sprocket with chain. so 1wd :(

the bike engine....i have some parts from a car i parted out...
clutch pedal. some cames. a shift box.

anyone have pics of a go kart with a motorbike engine? i.e Vtwin type etc

is it normal for the torque convert belt to be real loose?

;)

Do yourself a large favour and don't buy an engine that large. You're too young to die.

Yes, at rest, a CVT belt will appear loose. The action of the pullies tightens it off-idle.

Bman- Unless you're a master machinist with his own shop, your suggested surgery to remove engine from gearbox ain't gonna happen. Completely impractical for the amount of raw fabrication involved.

If you have a BIG budget, there are large cruiser (Harley Davidson type) engines and trannies that are divorced (two seperate pieces). Bring your wallet.

Wow that seems like a more than sufficient (almost scary) amount of power.

70 odd horses! Have fun with that

Ironically it sounds like there was a two speed auto version of the cb 750 but they discontinued it the year before yours was built.
