Lawn Boy vert to horizontal mods

Anyone here mod a vertical shaft Lawn Boy engine for use as a horizontal shaft ? I've seen the couple examples on Youtube from a few years back - looking at doing the needed mods for a minibike build I'm working on.

Better to just look for a old side shaft engine laying around a lawn boy is going to be unpractical

Its difficult to do. The easier way to do it is to get a horizontal shaft engine. If you want to keep this engine, you'll need a right angle gearbox.

Alot of the lawnboys are two strokes. Shouldn't it make it easier? Even though impractical. I agree. It's great to use what you got lying around but at a certain point it isn't worth it.

a two stroke is rather easy to convert;
you need to rotate the carb and fab a mount and that's essentially it already.

Yes a guy named russ and a few other people have you eill.need a custom engine plate made up and you will need to get the shaft on the crankshaft cut down to fit a normal clutch

If it's long enough. All the mowers I've seen seem to have short PTOs, but IDK.

I once wanted to convert a 149cc Lawn Boy 4 stroke we had to a go kart, but then I realized it would be a lot of trouble. So OP, is it a 2 or 4 stroke?

Yeah if it's the 2 stroke go ahead, mostly if it's a duraforce motor

Here's one of my favorite duraforce builds it's not only converting it from vertical to horizontal it's also modding it for more power too different carb a Tillotson head gasket mod too reed valve mods to make it have even more hp then 6.5 russ helped with this build and they estimate around 9 to 10 hp with all the mods
