Lawn-Boy DuraForce Model 'E' Twins/Azusa Frame

One engine mounted. Waiting :mad2: for 2nd swing mount. Can't do anything else until it arrives.
Original mount was removed to make way for new clutch and driven sprocket positions. Was directly in the way. Removal does not affect kart structurally. Engines are not identical, but will be shortly. Crankshaft ends will be trimmed to eliminate short taper and blade adapter threads. This will provide a little more clearance between engines.
Looking ahead, most difficult part of this will be the linkage synchronizing of carbs.

have you been able to start those lawnboy motors without the blades? most lawnboys I run into aren't balanced and need the blades to run.
for the throttle linkage try using a throttle cable from an old 2 stoke bike(1 cyl) with oil injecter both cables move equally

Russ has succesfully gotten these engines to run fine without a blade. Awhile ago he was talking about heavier flywheel's and such. That's a pretty decent kart you got there Russ! I like how sturdy it look's and the big drum brakes.

COOL! In less than an hour of running, those little tires will be mere smoking stains on the pavement! Have you given thought to a throttle linkage/cable set-up from an old Honda twin, like my wife's CB 175? It's two cables going up into a slider, with one one more cable coming out to your pedal. You'll have to fine tune the individual cables at the carbs (easy) and then the slide pulls them equally.

I don't know whose worse...McCormic or Kibble.
I think my next kart will be retro, twin engines. Nice work.
Do it. It's (so far) not as difficult as I first thought. Thanx.

Uhh...yeah. Kind of like a retroactive "can't be done"?

Never had any balance issues out of the 7 or 8 conversions I've done. Blade is unrelated to balancing of engine. Perhaps you mean inertia which is a different animal.

I hope so. Thanx!

Those things idle great, considering the no-blade thing goin' on. I had flipped the B/S 2 stroke and it idled great too, I completely forgot about the lighter flywheel issue until I joined this forum. Chalk up another advantage for 2-strokes!
Also- two 142cc 2-stroke engines=1 290cc Sachs twin snowmobile engine.... except you're TWIN carb and it looks like the kart will be lighter!
You're gonna need a pilot's licence.

Funny you should say that...I have an old R/C airplane wing in my basement. About 5 foot span. Hmm...Remember the old Dodge Daytona from late '60's or early '70's?

Your Sachs makes a lot more horsepower though. Russ, this project is sweet.

I don't think so.... right now it isn't doing SH_T, *sigh* but even when it IS running, it's a single carb/single exhaust piston-port vs a twin carb/exhaust reed-valve set up. If Russ' motors can hold together up to 7000 rpm, I'd say I'm toast.

Your engine produces 20+ hp while the 2 lawnboys are about 6-7 each. Yeah it is around 16 hp with the lb's but they aren't as high strung as the sled engine. If you had your engine running correctly i bet it would beat it. ANYWAY, them 2 engines are Badass.

How come one engine the carb is at a upward angle and the other motor's carb is level?
One engine had angled manifold pipe and was setup for minibike rear wheel clearance. Waiting for parts.
Other engine was setup for original kart and has been rebuilt.
Neither of these engines needed rebuild, but had subtle internal differences. Rebuild is necessary to bring them as close to identical as possible.
