Not half as nice as it will be after I'm done with it :D
The heads will get a fresh coat of paint and the aluminum block will be polished as well as a coat of paint and full set of custom decals (courtesy of the school sticker machine :) )for the rest of the sled.

So where will you be sitting? I am still scratching my head on how the swing arm is set. Not bashing you just cannot piture how it's going to be set up yet.

Keep going friend.

:cheers2:I'm a big fan of this build. I keep having dreams of a sled engine and yamaha blaster suspension, but now I might not even need the blaster after seeing you make a suspension with the sled shocks.

Thanks silverlakez, hope you can get a sled powered kart going sometime in the near future.
Just as a mini update I have 2 of the 4 brackets for the front suspension welded on and have the material cut for the arms. I doubt that there will be any more updates this week because i have a seminar due tomorrow, and a essay, physics test and calculus test all due on Friday. although since it's a long weekend i hope to have it as a roller on the weekend.

I gave up on making a slotted engine mount and just went with two pieces of square tubing with holes drilled in them for the mount. It ended up being mounted farther back than i had wanted, but that's fine since it gives me more room in the front for my feet. After I mounted the engine I fired it up for the first time since i bought it then realized that i didn't know where the kill switch was in the huge rats nest of wires, I had to literally choke the engine off with my hand. May have picture tomorrow after i make the a-arms.

Since the skid on my sled was frozen beyond repair, i decided to pull the torsion springs out from it and use those for my front suspension.
The spring on the left is the original and the one on the right is the one from the skid.
I also included a 1/4 driver for size comparison. Also, you see the shock on the left hand side of the skid, surprisingly it still works fine. I thought that it was causing the problems with the frozen skid but it was something else that was frozen.
Again, the donor sled. It's slowly getting torn down for the complete rebuild.

Im kinda confused....are you using the sled for your kart (engine and springs) or just repairing the sled? hows the kart comin along?

The engine from that sled is staying in it, I'm just using the shocks and springs from it because I'm replacing them. The engine with the silver shroud is the one that I'm using on the kart and the red triple is the one that goes back in the sled. The triple is much too large( 100hp) for the kart.

Well, i decided that i;m not going to get this finished before the build off date. I could have it running and driving for the build off if i cut corners and did a hack job, but I want to be able to use this on my resume/portfolio so I'm going to do it the right way and make it look good. So Toystory, can you move this to a suitable sub-forum, most likely the pictures/logs.

Anyways, there will be one more update.

So I finally went to the machine shop and did up my new shaft. The old one is laying on the kart for a size reference. it was 32" center to center and it now is 44" center to center.

I also got around to mounting the engine. Also, the extended length of shaft that is unsupported is not a problem because of two things, one is that it is only 7" and the other is that I'm making some sleeves like the ones already on there.
The ground clearance and how high the engine sits.

Guess which one is used the most :D

Are those for metal hole cutting?

Yes, they are hole saws. They work better than a grinder for notching tubing, but end mills work the best.

Now for a few pictures.

I moved the swing arm mount back on the mainframe to allow for more room up front (Hate my long legs) as well as letting the joint move into the negative.

The next few picture are the ones that i promised bighead a while ago. They show how the joint works.

Well, this is on hold for a indefinite period of time, most likely for ever. I made too many changes and raised my expectations as I was building it and decided that the frame cant be made to do what I want, so it's being put on the back burner while I think about it.

That's actually what I'm doing right now, have it about half finished and am hoping to have it running mid next week. I will post some pics in a new thread tomorrow. It looks nothing at all like yours, about the only things that are similar is four wheels and a steering wheel.:D
