I'm going to disagree here. I feel like the macks are overrated, and over priced. I'm using a DELL insperon from 2006 right now, great computer. I do think it kind of depends on your personality though, seems like more logical people like the pc's.

not to put down pc's or anything but i had a hour 30 minute auto class today in the computer lab... and the dell computers couldnt have 2 windows open at once or else they completely freeze... and they are 2010 models.

;)

i dont even feel compelled to run a windows os anymore, you take xp and your absolutley great, im my house theres a bigger computer, laptop, and a mini dell inspiron, they came with loudy windows starter and 7, windows xp is the best of them, vista sucks, and 7 is vista fixed, just my opinion, what i end up doing is taking the laptop instantly over to my step grandmas because my grandpa was a computer guy and for the next 5 years has disks prebought of linux, i run linux alot, and its never slowed down on me, its been faster than both of windows and mac, run linux, its almost nothing to buy it and itll never slow down, ive never had linux crash or get a virus on me.

also keep in mind those are school computers, all computers at my school (including 1 or two macs that were partly donated) are horrible.

talking about school computers, Devino, never buy a "think pad" by far the worst computer i have used in my life (the old dinosaur we used to have was much better). I am not at all exaggerating here, i have waited 40min to the end of a class waiting for my computer to turn on, it never did....

HP, or DELL. or if you are a mac person, and have the cash, get a mac.

School computers are slow slow because A)They're running off a Windows XP server edition. B) They've got LOADS of crap loaded on them, C) There are like a bazillion computers connected to the network.

just use linux, its better all around, and school computers are the slowest thing ever used,

I run Linux on my HP desktop, but I wouldnt clear a perfectly good Windows 7 installation off a brand new computer. Linux is good and all, but you cant run Windows programs.

I-HATE-MACS!!!:censored: Everything Macintosh Apple sells is overrated and overpriced. Thats why I dont have an Ipod or use ITunes.

No offense, but that has to be the stupidest comment I have heard today. It probably does depend on you personality, but how can you draw that conclusion?

Devino - You asked for advice on laptops, maybe you should have said in your OP that you don't like Macs, would have saved us some time.

okay, no macs, i get it.

but one other good thing no one has said about the macs yet is the video editing. if you have a go-pro cam (or a friend with one) and a mac with imovie, and some time, you can make a pretty kicka$$ movie.

I can't tell you that's the way it is 100% of the time, all i'm passing on is how i have noticed what most people i know who like pc's are like, and what most of the people i know who like mac's are like. Now that you mention it that comment does seem kinda stupid, re phrasing that might have been good :ack2: :roflol:

Just thought I'd say macs and PCs are basically the same thing. You can install OSX on PCs and Windows on Macs. Hardware-wise, macs cost much more for what you get. Quality control on the hardware is generally better than your run of the mill laptops, however.

Best power and reliability to cost ratio is when you build your own tower though.

Ill have to agree that Mac produces an overall better product, but in a world where whatever you buy is outdated and unsupported after a year, its just not economical.

I have a slow ibm thinkpad that I have for work. I installed linux mint on it and it rocks. A lot of pc problems are the operator and them downloading crap and looking at porn. I see it alot working for an isp. If I was to buy a new setup it would be a macbook pro. I've seen one fall off of the top of the fridge and land on the tile floor on the corner of the screen. It shattered the screen but it worked perfectly and you couldn't tell the screen was cracked. With a new pc they come with so much preinstalled crab that they are slow out of the box. I have a custom built pc that I have way to much stuck into it but I would rather use my linux laptop. All linux software is free and so easy to work with.

My brother set me up for my first PC with Linux Sentos Red Hat; bullet proof, except for the fact that I didn't know **^@# about how to use it. 5 yrs in, I'm starting to learn how to use one of these stupid things. On the other hand, he couldn't build an assembly line if his life depended on it........

What really gets me about Macs is that the different lines of computers DON'T USE THE SAME PORTS. There are multiple forms of a Mac video out cable. I ran into this recently at a film festival thing through school. All of those "indie kids" from the rich areas had their sticker encrusted Macs, but didn't have the proper cables to display their videos. I walked up there proudly with my refurb Dell, with a blazing 2.1 GHz dual core processor (our 2001 Dell tower clocks at 2.99GHz), 3 huge GB of ram, and integrated graphics, plugged in the standard PC video out cable and was able to present. I ended up taking 2nd place over all...using my $400 computer and free software.

I feel macs are very superficial, as their internal stats are usually mediocre by PC standards. But I was just appalled to find that they don't have the same ports on all of their laptops.
