How did you accommodate the movement of the leaf springs with the chain?

sorry for bumping an old post.

sorry for bumping an old post.

what does bumping an old post mean?
saw the question above that, leafs are pretty stiff chain is not real slack but I used a 2.5 x 2.5 x 1/4 wall piece of square tubing 2.5'' long then made nylon chain guide sort of what a street bike has, placed it 4'' in front of rear sprocket if it doesn't work i'll make a tensioner for it. rear sprocket can only move up and down with staying parallel to front sprocket through the movement there's no arch's or any deflection to consider. at least that's the way I'm looking at it. you can see the guide housing without nylon in post #16 made into motor mount, chain passes through it, and rides nylon rail/not shown

That's what I was thinking even a slight difference between the left and right wheels such as hitting a rock and your snapping teeth off the sprocket I don't think any sort of tensioner will help that not the problem it the fact that when u hit a bump your axle will then be misaligned

yea I could see that, happening if the leaf springs where 1 leaf, 200lbs. but these are the 3 leaf 1000 lbs. each theres maybe 1/4'' movement with me jumping up and down, its not going to flex like rock crawler, and the front sprocket has give in it l to r, there not like kart sprocket that has no give what so ever my design using leafs was not to have that type suspension, but more for realistic look, and a alternate way to mount the axle. and the seat bottoms have 2 180lbs compressed height, valve springs per seat. to give lil cushion to rider, but either way I don't think its going to flex enough to shear teeth, but if it does, I have a welder and not afraid to use it..... 5-10mins I can have those leafs pretty much locked down. but hey either way, its all trial and error. heard a plenty times something wouldn't work, but that's just an opinion, we all have our own box on our shoulders, sometimes thinking outside the box is not the same thing going on inside the box... :lolgoku: but just have to wait and find out.
high jacking, nah we are all here to look, question and some to learn, so ask or post what you'd like, may not pertain here but may help someone browsing. or may give someone idea to do something differently. never know what phrase, comment, picture etc.... will turn on those little lights in our heads that get the gears turning.:stir:=:idea2:

no metal wizard, just always been good with my hands, first attempt at building something from ground up, plenty of wrench time under my belt but other than that its just drawing it up, measure and cut, trial and error wish I was a wizard, body panels would have been easier. and enough money for all the right tools would might help. but a jeep is about as basic a shape as it gets. next kart will have more curves, doing this one has helped me learn what works, as far as bending, shaping metal. Hope the looks good don't out do the perform good side of things. or it will just be eye candy.:lolgoku:

ok march 11th to be exact, just poking fun at the title under my user name, says Senior Member. so I'm just short of 5 not 6, I didn't choose the title, or what ever it represents, I just see it keep changing, so I referenced it with my post, due to the old thread comment, as fast as the title went to senior member, time is flying, no harm intended..... anyway got some of the hood done and adding some color to the body with the carbon fiber vinyl. cowl will get orange stripe as well.

No letters. At least not those ones. If you want to do something creative that might be cool.

I like the letters also... Are you painting the remainder or leaving it as is?

are you referring to rest of the body? going to do some type design to tone down all the aluminum. happy with the letters just think there a little bit to big that's why moved them up toward center but had planned to put them on side.

I was also wondering if you are painting the rest. I think the hood looked really clean with the aluminum silverish color and the orange and black fau carcon fiber. The letters took away from that. Just my .02 Either way you have built a very very nice little ride.:thumbsup:
