Keyway issues

I recently bought a predator 212cc engine from harbor freight, and when trying to install the clutch (which has a built in key) the key that came with the engine wouldn't come out of the keyway. I tapped it with a rubber hammer, tried to pry it with a screwdriver, pull it with a clamp tightly on it and it won't come out. Any idea of how to get it out?

A sharp tipped awl weaseled underneath and pried upwards will release it.
File down key (not keyway) slightly to prevent problem in future.

ah my thoughts would be a little heat from a gas torch on the end of the crankshaft some freeze spray on key key then a little tap with a sharp small chisel

I would tend to shy away from this unless you have some spare crankcase seals laying around.....

I use diagonal cutting pliers. Cut into the sides and pry downward lifting the key out.

I just bought a 212 and the key was stubborn. I used a punch and a hammer and it drove out.
