Cool. Those Wheels did come out better than I expected as well.

I know it is Sarge nd all... But I like them silver looking. almost a shame to paint them OD Green. but You are the "K"artist!

Yea yea... We'll see how it all goes. I made these for the Wachtmeister.

But! While the idea was to make them for myself... there was a secondary plan. It was to see if there was some interest in the vintage realm.

Reason: so they could have a good look-alike to run while saving their actual vintage wheels for displays.

Funny thing: the minute I got these done, what falls into my hands? A real set of Go-Powers. 6" rears (rare as he11) and 5" fronts.

Oh the irony.

And there is some interest it appears... more on that soon.

Yea, all fun.

I like those six holed wheel inserts, great idea!

Thanks man. I'll get some of the tri star versions made & throw ya a set. Good quick talkin to ya today too.

Update:

Sure, I painted them. They're test subjects & paint comes off anyway.

I had to know what it'd look like and visuals are everything. So I sat some of the rings on sarge to look.

Hm.. I dunno. Maybe. I'll have to think about this... they do match some other things though... and some old military vehicles do have basic rims & holes in em.

frankly.. flat steel rims look best on sarge IYAM.

the more 'industrial' the look the better the match for that theme..

The semi looks best on manco's and the baroness looks indeed awesome on turbines..
Those things... urban defiance.. something 'racey' I'd say...

I hear ya! With the stuff I've got, it should be hard to get the right wheels on the right ride.

You mean these wheels?

exactly!

I mean it's sarge.. you nearly cannot ruin it's look with any wheel..
but having if I had to pick, that's the ones it'd sit on.

Oh... Tonka R/T looks also great on mancos...
hmm... I see a new build coming... something 'race' themed again

Nope, Fire Truck.

Something along the "Crown Coach company", mid 50's look. Wonder if Shiny hands wheels would wor... (Shut up Kelly. Stop thinking about it... just go do it and pay for it later)

'giggle.

Just remember Fire trucks are VERY Shiny and everything is Polished and Clean.
No Offense... I just don't see that on most of your builds. They are more Rat Rod looking.
Hmm a Rat rod Fire truck...

Update:

Some lunchtime computer sketching (and some recent posts) have me thinking about the Short Bus project.

I'm still unsure if I should do this but in looking at how it might appear, I just might try this.

The worst part about this: As I drew this in (we'll call it photoshop)... I'm seriously thinking of using U51's frame for this and putting U51 on the shelf for a bit and let it wait for a different frame...

Reason: U51's frame is beefy, like a bus. It's steering is "truck-like" and could work well. It has linkage everywhere and rattles with the distinct sound of steel.. just like a bus.

We'll number it with the number 50 for now. Yes, that's in line with the whole theme.

But 50 what one might ask?

Now where to find a metal thingy that really would work for the body. hm... Maybe it's time to go hunting.

After work update: (this is a build log... for anyone new looking in... a very very long build log and story)

Anyhoo,

Love it when something falls into your hands that otherwise would have a life of sheer torture. (It didn't fall into my hands... I bought it on ebay)

Here's where we get into some nifty additions. Up today, old fuel filter/sediment bowls.

The perfect addition to any hot rod. When you can "SEE" the fluids that run such a beast, it seems to add to the overall impression.

We'll use it so fuel flows through it but a modern filter will still be hidden somewhere in the system. This way we don't have to worry about finding filters for these antiques and it looks neat all the same.

Thanks for looking.

Update to the update:

I cannot believe it that I actually went back into the shed of witchery.

I really can't.

How could there be something in there to use? All that's in there is the remnants of a teenager's crap that never came back to get it... old race karts... and...

Old boat gas tanks... for the body of the Short Bus?

Hm. I think the idea will work but need to find just the right one. Cheap, simple, and every one you'll find is probably rusty.

Even better.

Some I found... but won't work. So, the hunt is on, find 2 rusty rounded top old boat gas tanks. Sounds like a plan for tomorrow. They've got the right roundness... but we'll need something older. (like the 3rd pic)

I'm with Eric on the Fire Truck (wow that sounds weird :D)
Anyways.. firetrucks are always as clean as new... somehow that doesn't seem to be a match *shrugs*

Nevermind.... short bus, that front looks like an old tram to me (the monocle mainly ;))alte-strassenbahn-in-lissabon-afa633c3-030c-4fe2-9e48-7c0352ef74f9.jpg
So yeah.. odd from my perspective.

Agreed, the firetruck probably won't fit with how I do it... but the Crown coach company also made the bus.

It's supposed to be odd. It can't have 2 lights, you expect it. It's the short bus and in a certain view, missing stuff and odd appearances kind of makes it for me.

We'll see how it goes. You know me.

Unit 51 becomes number 50.
That sounds "crazy"
But a Hot Rod Cop car is still cooler than a Hot Rod short bus.

Sid... Do you concur?

With certain things settling in my mind, I figured I'd better get on this one.

When did you do that?

Just today! Sometimes, to help me think about where I'm going with the others, I just "go to town" on other things and, well, sometimes something nifty comes of it. I just go at it and wing it as I go.

Sure, the Short Bus is a good idea but it's just that for now. The cop car is a go, always has been. It gives me something to "tinker" with.

Mua ha ha ha!
