I hear your pain about quiting smoking. I quit about 7 years ago now, and I know how hard it is. You have just got to take it one day at a time, like you are doing now. The worst times were when I had just finished a meal, or when I was enjoying a beer. It just felt natural to have a smoke then. I still sometimes like the smell of smoke if I walk by someone having one. That hasn't gone away for me.

Oh...and great work on the minibike. It is looking killer

Thanks! Yea, it's rough but I think I"m over the harder part now. Just maintenance now.

The minibike should see some great additions this weekend and possibly run.

Yesterday was day 5 of quitting smoking for me. I had the biggest challenge yet! Band practice and 4 or 5 beers, surrounded by other people smoking! I came close to accepting a cigarette, but my better judgement won over my impaired judgement. Lol.

Congrats, we're on the same journey.

Just push through the cravings and they get less & less. I drink still but just not as much.

Good luck to ya.

Kelly and Mystery- Good luck on the stop-smoking campaign, hope you can keep a handle on it! A few years ago, I managed to quite for about 5 months. Then, my life started crashing down around me, and the stress was a bit too much to handle. I got down to either flaring up a butt, or going to prison because I was going to kill somebody. So- butts it is. When I figure I am ready, I will try again. Mystery- man- band practise, and beer? Been there! There's no way I coulda quit back when I was in the band. Out of 5 of us, 4 smoked. So- what- the other guitarist, bass player, and singer are all blowing up a cloud and I'm not gonna flare up? Yeah. that'll happen!

Meanwhile, the karts look great, and the antenna on Sarge is a nice touch. Keep up the great work.

Good luck on the smoking, when I quit 6 years ago I ate about 2.5 tins of Altoids a day. My breath was fantastic!

Thanks & thanks.

Onward:

Went out & played around a bit... which resulted in 5 separate drives in Sarge. Just tweaking this, adjustments, etc. She's real smooth now, predictable and reliable.

And what happens...? I decide to change something.

The motor that's been on the minibike is really in good shape and has just the look I'm going for for Sarge. Don't get me wrong, the current briggs works fine but as I mentioned before, it's a tired engine. After 25 runs (consisting of 10 - 15 min each) the oil is black now. I cleaned it out, rinsed it out, and put fresh oil in it before I started with it... and it's probably gonna blow up sometime... but that's just a guess.

So, that briggs seen on the minibike will be it. This way, I can use that little cool bullet tank to gravity feed it and make sarge just the way I want it.

No worries though... I have another tank just like it for what's next.

Since the minibike has these rounded parts, a rounded motor is going to round (ha ha) it out. An old Tecumseh H35 I have here.

No pics cause I'm lazy today. So you get to just envision what it would look like. Yea.

More soon.

Saga continues...

Day 6 no smoking.

Morning started off weird... after pouring a cup... tried to put the coffee pot in the fridge...

... So I just went outside & fired up Sarge for a morning cruise.

Throughout the day, just tinkered with motors & drove sarge, racked up 6 more good drives then messed with the clutch. Put heavier springs on it and now she's on fire now.

Put the H35 on the minibike for looks and took a few pics of Sarge's replacement engine. The old motor on it is smoking pretty good now... possibly a ring about to go and other various items inside. LOL

Pic 1, the minibike wiith the H35. Has a nice feel to it and seems to flow with the overall stance.

Pic 2. Sarge's replacement motor. Older style briggs. A pretty solid machine I've pieced together.

Thanks for watching.

Update:

Well, day 7 is here and I made it a week. I think I've quit smoking.

Anyway, the minibike as it is now.

It's all just a mock up, but that's how I get things done.

Decided to scrap the back end piece... and came up with this:

MUA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for watching.

looks like it's missing a gatling gun ;)

The now scrapped back end looked like a saddle... maybe as a "scrambled eggs anyone?" type of seat?

I am;
I'm not a huge fan of military myself, but I do know someone that is very much interested in all WWI-WWII related stuff, so if you want me to I can relay your questions.
So feel free to ask and be patient in case I don't know myself ;)

Great, I appreciate it. Take your time.

I was in the american military and I do love doing a theme here & there... but in this case, I want to get it correct in a way. Not correct in the look, but correct in numbering, insignia, etc.

I can surf the internet until I'm exhausted and still not get it right so basically, I'm just looking for what numbers / insignia might be on a german bike of sorts (if you mixed it with a plane) from this "made up period" I'm doing... we'll call it the "eleventeen-hundreds"

My ancestors are from Austria & Germany as well from what I'm told. I don't know much more than that however.

Okay, I understand, I'll investigate ;)

For now: Motorbikes seem to have only few insignia, the bikes of your or similar color are most likely related to the "Afrikakorps" (yes...as it would be in english)
The proper insignia for that would be a palm tree (uhm..loose the swastika as germans do on restoration)
(this link contains the "original" icon WITH Swastika... Sorry about that that's why it's not clickable!)
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:DAK.svg (DAK -> Deutsches Afrika Korps)

Some impressions of military motorbikes from that era:

This one obviously has a lot of markings.
All technical: Achsabstand (wheelbase in cm) Tire pressure (in atü *) and Achsdruck (Axis max load in kg)
And some Luftwaffe company (which does NOT correspond to the WH license plate meaning Wehrmacht Heer so army not airforce...*shrugs*) emblem I have yet to decipher.
The black icon on the fender is nothing but the icon of the manufacturer Zündapp ;)

This one is rather hard.. no markings but the company insignia;
you can tell it's Afrikakorps by the palm tree and that its some sort of artillery because of the the lines (two short bold lines with a long thinner line in the middle) but the rest... I have no idea. (not even what the goggles above should indicate)

Again tire pressure on the fenders and the palm tree this time with the spear circle
That's from the Flakeinheit (FLAK = FliegerAbwehrKanone - Anti Aircraft gun loosely translated.. oh einheit means unit :D)
the "crossed circle with a hammer" thingy on the back means "Kraftradschützen" (motorbike marksmen ..sounds odd *shrugs*)

And another one
Yes that looks cool, but as a rule of thumb: Better not use runic symbols ;)
That is a Wolfsangel

And for a rough understanding a set of very basic symbols:

I'll get back a soon as I know more ;)

@ Desertduler, thank you; I tried to be helpful.

First additional info...
The basic symbols can be merged.. so the artillery "goggles" BMW, is not only artillerie but also "Panzerjäger" (tank hunter ;)) (the T symbol merged) the two rings are a hint that it is the second Tankdivision (they should be slightly seperated from the T bar)

Odd Note: this one has a WL license plate where WL means "Wehrmacht Luftwaffe" (airforce) but it has army markings...
My best guess is: Even the ones that do own original bikes are lost on some markings :D

The third bike is not only "Flakeinheit" but "Pionier" too (the second bar on that arrow thingy).

... see merged symbols ;)

The Zündapp would be a great bobber with some minor tweaks :D

Quick update:

Each night I've been driving sarge after work & dinner. She's up to 43 runs, 9 shy of the number Urban Defiance has.

I'd call it reliable now.

Time to get on one of the others.
