I'm not dead and niethers the Kart lol

Hey Jordan,

Where abouts in cumbria are you? im from newcastle and were building a CBR600 Superkart.

for all you other guys building one its harder than it looks lol Jordan obviously has some sick skills :)

Hey, Im just outside of Carlisle. I've got alot of friends over newcastle way. Used to be in quay-side every other fri/sat night too!

Looking forward to seeing some pics of your Kart, cbr600 is a nice nice engine, I kinda Wish I'd went that way myself.

I've bought a new tube notcher and pillar drill and allsorts since my last update so I'll be cracking on with it soon hopefully. Nice to see theres interest on here to see it finished!

I've also started another kart project though to be honest, we broke up our Suzuki LT160 Quadrunner that we'd put a Honda XLR125 engine in when we were younger so we want to get that built up with big wheels on for a quarry we can use it in!

haha awesome jordan!!

im in south shields, i have a huge fabricating factory with cnc plasmas and a friend who does cnc laser cutting on the side for seriously good prices! so if you ever need any help let me know or if you need some tools, welders etc etc your welcome to pop down anytime.

my go kart is a little daunting to be honest. The 600 engine is a big lump. ive never done anything like this before and because of that im keep losing interest because i keep getting stuck. plus workl

in an ideal world i would rather pay someone to do it for me lol

but as i said good that you aint give up and your welcome to pop over anytime.

Derek - £25 delivered on ebay iirc for the axle!

if you havn't already found the zoomkarts website, it sells all sorts of karting stuff, little bit expensive mind.

I used to work for Clarke Chapman group in gateshead are you familiar?

I'll bear you in mind re. laser/plasma stuff, that could be really handy thanks for the offer.

Derek, you should take pictures of what you've got and start a thread, theres an awful lot of good information/people on here that like to help, but I know exactly what you mean about loosing interest when you hit a snag. I spat the dummy when my tensioning system didnt operate as I wanted it to, but I have a solution in mind I just need to get back on it.

on the black and orange I have a 13 hp clone engine it had a raptor on when I took the pic

Older one is a Westbend 820 2 stroke 10 hp

And I want to make the blue frame into a shifter with a 125cc/ 250cc honda or yamaha engine 6 speed 2 stroke so Its goin well. Im back into school so not as much time to work but I do what I can.

I did some work on the kart this weekend, only had a couple hours to spare but managed to get two seat mounts fish-cut, and welded an M12 nut inside each one, then faced the ends and put a little radius on at the same time. Its the roughest thing on the kart so far I've done and I'm happy with them lol

Also, my rear engine bracket design actually does work as I wanted it to, it was just me being a tool - absolutely zero movement left to right/forward back now with them in this orientation:

I've got confidence back with this kart so I'm pushing ahead with things now, made a bar to bolt the two front seat mounts to and keep them at exactly 350mm apart and perfectly aligned horizontally when I fit them. Rear Sprocket set-up next and then the rear seat mount...

Thanks man ^

I welded and mounted the front lugs on this weekend, I was busy with a whole load of other things but I got that done at least and drilled and mounted the seat:

Looked at radiator placement and can't really make up my mind what to do.

Up front gives excellent airflow but its more succeptable to damage:

Putting it behind the driver and building a little shroud seems the best option:

I'll probably end up ceramic coating the exhaust when I build it because it'll get quite hot behind the seat and the exhaust is going to run that side as well - close to the radiator.

I want to get the back of the seat mounted next weekend. Hopefully that'll happen, or at least some decent progress!

You definitely want the radiator behind you. You can build a scoop to direct airflow to it. There are several reasons you want it behind you. First it's really easy for something to break a hole in it if it's out front. On my odyssey the radiator is mounted behind my head, has a net in front of it, and a guard attached to the front of it. Even with all this protection my radiator is covered in dings. Second thing is not if but when you break a hole in it if it's in front of you your gonna wear that hot coolant. If this happens while your at speed it could cause you to lose control. Us humans don't have the clearest thoughts whilst being burned. If it breaks behind you it's no big deal.

Fatcat - thanks for your comments!

I suppose the difference between your kart and mine is that I won't be following someone/going offroad with this, meaning its less likely to have anything hitting the front of the kart. If I hit the front with anything It'd more than likely be a loss anyway.

Putting it beside the driver is in-line with the debris that'll be thrown up by the front tyre but, I agree its probably still the better place to have it, less lines to run, less stress on the water pump (no need for an additonal electric water pump) and if there was a failure, I wouldnt get sprayed in hot water. I'll be building a shroud anyway that'll help with the larger debris.

Definitely put it on the side, at the very least you will have hot air constantly running over you with it mounted up front.
